5 weeks pregnant - headaches?

First of all, let me tell you that I'm allergic to Tylenol (acetaminophen). Therefore, I cannot take most pain medicines.

Anyway, I'm 5 weeks pregnant and have had massive headaches. Typically I drink a coke or take a couple ibuprofen to help with pain. However, since I can't really take either of those, does anyone have any other suggestions to help with the headaches?

I have a 14 month old son, but never got headaches while I was pregnant with him.

P.S. I posted this in the pregnancy section, but people told me to take tylenol - obviously didn't read the question.

Thanks in advance.

I get migraines for which tylenol doesn't even work for me.

I spoke to my OB and she prescribed me a safe alternative.

Also ice is supposed to help because headaches can be caused by swelling blood vessels. As can rubbing peppermint oil on your temples, although I'm not sure why. Napping and eating can help too. As well as drinking plenty of water as headaches can also be caused by dehydration.

My OB also told me that some of the pain killers that aren't safe in your first or third trimester, like ibuprofen, are fine to take in the second in moderation. So that may be able to provide some relief.

I had awful headaches with my second child also. My entire pregnancy was different, which is normal. You can have up to 5 caffeinated beverages per day during pregnancy. Less than this amount has never been affirmatively linked to causing any harm to the fetus.

Other than that, I would ask my OB if there is anything other than the typical homeopathic remedies that I could try.

Tylenol is safe to take while pregnant. Also, one can of coke won't hurt. My doc said it was fine. When i was pregnant, I used to get headaches in the early weeks too. i would take tylenol, drink a coke, and put an icey cold washcloth over my eyes and lay down in a dark room.
