My chihuahua is off balance, shedding, vomiting, and making a choking sound. HELP PLEASE!?

I have a 6 year old male chihuahua and am very concerned because recently, he has been making this strange choking sound. he is vomiting, shedding and off balance. We took him to the vet, and they told us that he just has allergies, but the medicine doesn't seem to help! please someone give me a good answer to whats wrong with him, and how to help him... I just want to see my dog happy and healthy again :c

Allergies? I want a second opinion. It sounds like either a stroke or heart failure. The shedding is simply a response to distress. My dogs will leave piles of hair just walking into the vet's office. The off-balance could be an inner ear infection or a stroke. Vomiting could be many things. The choking sound may be from a weakened trachea (stroke) or lung fluid (heart failure) or an obstruction in his throat.

The dog is having a reaction to the medicine. Call the vet a.s.a.p. because it sounds like your dog is in trouble. If he is off balance he is most like dizzy. It could be a inner ear infection. If your vet doesn't give your anymore help, go to a different vet and get a second opinion.

My 10 year old Min Pin was doing the same thing. He was making this gross coughing / choking sound then throw up a clear or white liquid and he was be walking around and then jut fall over. We thought maybe he had heart worms, but the vet says no. Take him to other vets and get him checked for heart worms. Good luck

Most likely kennel cough and your dog should have been inoculated against that as well except the dog can still get it in a milder form. Reactions to any other of her shots do not show themselves this way usually the dog tens to b ecome a little listless and off their food.If you did have the kennel cough shot she may have had a reaction to that as that is not a common thing but on the odd occasion pup May get this cough. At 9 weeks most Vets do not give them their final shot anyhow so she would have had the kennel cough shot only at 12 weeks and not before.

  • check his heart rate... if its really fast call a vet if its extremely slow call a vet.. if he is gagging he could possibly be choking on something, the vomitting could be caused by an allergic reaction to meds hes taking or something he ate.. try giving him water and keeping him calm.. if he doesnt start acting normal than take him to the vet asap

Ring vet immediately and if it is after hours ring an emergency vet. This is very abnormal behaviour.

Holly is right, get to another vet and it sounds serious to me, so don't wait a long time to do it.
