Leave is granted at the discretion of the chain of command with the commander having the final authority in approving or denying.

You may want to specify your service and specific situation.

Every command sets their own leave granting policies, and since there may be some planning involved on your supervisor's part, especially if there are more of you trying to take leave during the same time, you may want to give him enough notice.

Each command can also grant you special liberty for an extended weekend according to DoD policy; you just have to inquire with the right people about how to go about getting it. It may be a good idea for you to familiarize yourself with DoD, your branch of service, and Command policy, so that you don't have some bonehead supervisor telling you the wrong thing.

Also, you are "always" able to write up a special liberty or leave request that would have to be routed, through your immediate supervisor, up the chain of command for final approval/disapproval.

I hope this helps and good luck.

Its based on command policy, partially up to your chain of command, and how good people are at signing chits(requests). Expect to walk it up the chain of command to get it processed. Frankly, if I was your supervisor, I'd look the other way and have you tell me your meeting up with your family in a closer city. I have a guy in that exact same position and that's what I'm telling him to do.

There should me know issue with you getting leave with that much notice. My husband is in the Marine Corp and has had no issue and he has requested it with only a few days notice. Good Luck!!

Do not lie and say your meeting in a closer city. If you were to get into a fender bender or a speeding ticket, etc, they can charge you!!

command policy. you may have to hand walk it up the chain as they can leave it in each in box up to 72 hours before passing it along.
