The grandfather reads a book to the boy in "The Princess Bride" (1987).

The one with the book transporting him into the story is "Magic Island" (1995)

Jack Carlisle (Zachery Ty Bryan) is a disillusioned 13-year-old. His mother is always away at work since his father left, so he decides to run away, believing that she won't miss him. As he is ready to leave, his nanny convinces him to read a book: "Magic Island", a pirate story. As he reads, he is drawn into that world, where he has numerous adventures with Prince Morgan (Edward Kerr), while fleeing the evil Blackbeard the Pirate (Andrew Divoff of "Wishmaster"). He is saved by the beautiful mermaid Lily (Jessie-Ann Friend), with whom he falls in love. Also in the cast are Ja'net Dubois, Abraham Benrubi, French Stewart and Isaac Hayes (voice).
