Best laptop brand (non-Mac)?

A friend is looking to replace his Toshiba laptop which has gone south. Which brand is the most reliable/best quality these days? Dell, Sony, HP or something else? Macs aren't an option since all of his software is Windows-based.

He had problems with his Toshiba Satellite, so he's not looking for another one. Suggestions?

Dell FTW. They might be a little bit more expensive than others but they are worth their weight in gold. They are reliable, easy to work with ( for a tech ) and durable. HPs are decent but they tend to have overheating issue and they have had way to many recalls ( including one that is recent for laptop batteries catching on fire) . All other brands don't even lean towards. They are a little trickier to work with and break down alot more.

Toshiba satellite tv for pc are very solid and could serve you properly. I run seven and very own 3 others that are all Toshiba and are all working o.k. Now that Vista isn't so buggy that's ok W7 is wonderful yet there are nonetheless one or 2 themes with the 64bit and peripheral equipment no rely if that's of an older style. I even have 2 W7 structures 4 Vista and one XP certainly one of my very own laptops has twin boot with Vista and W7(64bit) it is the single i'm making use of now on Vista. they're all no bigger than 15" monitors for extra useful transportability . So my selection is Toshiba want I say extra

leonov are the best laptops i worked with and used, really nice quality and easy to work with (hardware part that is) they ushally cost a bit more thu, many companies and similar use leonov, dell or HP

I would choose either leonov or dell thu

for high performance, good quality and cheap price i would go for MSI, not the same quality as leonov thu but damn good laptops

Based on personal experience my Advent has lasted well for nearly 4 years although power supplies do occasionally break and then fan is broken now (after frequent drops). So I would say Advent but from statistics Asus have the lowest failure rate.
