What do you look for in a coffee shop?

I recently have a sparked interest in opening up a coffee shop. I have many ideas for it, and I want it to be someplace people can come to to free their mind of stresses, study, read, etc.

What are things you think every coffee shop should have? Or any good ideas? Thanks

Update:

@Welcome to my Nightmare: I live in the Dallas area, an Austin coffee shop was the first thing that came to my mind too. :)

I agree with the second answer. I do not like Starbucks. They're too uniform; cookie cutter.... They seem to try and be unique, but are far from it.

I would like cheap prices, free or cheap refills on regular coffee comfortable chairs, including table chairs. (I've been pregnant twice and dealt with uncomfortable chairs and before, during and after my second pregnancy, I've had a bony butt. Not comfortable.) Real food and not the stuff Starbucks tries to pass off as real food. Whole wheat, all natural vegan foods, including muffins, cookies, etc. (And try to not price them higher just because they are "specialty". That's not fair for those who eat foods like that because of allergies, religious reasons, or other choices.)

As for coffee, again, I think many of Starbucks's drinks, like Frappuccinos are just marketing gimmicks. My sister-in-law buys them daily and says she drinks coffee. I don't know how something that is diluted with milk and ice and whipped cream is coffee. (She often has this with one of the over sized muffins. Gee, I bet that doesn't help her weight as she is far from thin.) Also, do local as much as you can. I know is become a bit of a marketing gimmick, but it's still good to do. Organic, Fair Trade coffee is also a good idea.

Anyway, my three-year-old is wanting to read a book and it's fair, since I've been on here long enough.

Hardwood floors, preferably in an older building. A cool little stage up front, in the window. Good eats (scones, muffins, biscotti, brownies & such). Fresh-ground coffee, from a local roaster, of course. In short, everything that Starbucks is *not*.

When I visit a coffee shop I look for a non-pretentious ( non Starbucks crowd ). People studying, reading, or engaged in intelligent conversation. And it must be quiet.
