Insurance Smoking Disclosure?

I am going to get a physical for life insurance. I used to smoke occasionally but haven't for 2 years. Unfortunately, I have told my doc in the past about my smoking. In addition to the physical (which I'll pass), the insurer wants my doctors name and number. Is my doctor obligated to tell them that I admitted to being a smoker?

It depends on the wording on the application. Some carriers say 2 years, others 5 years, other want to know if you ever smoked.

Depending on the amount and type of coverage for which you are applying, they may demand to see your doctor's notes. If less than $500k, it probably isn't worth their effort to check.

If you really haven't smoked for two years, you should be fine when they run the medical tests. You'd be surprised for how long that stuff stays in your system.

If you haven't smoke in the past 12 months then you won't be considered a smoker. You may not get the "best" rate since you smoked in the past, but I wouldn't worry about it.

They don't ask the doctor if you have smoked in the past. However, they may ask for your medical records and it's possible that the statement that you smoked is in those records. However, the blood and urine test will clear you.

In many cases they won't even ask for your records.

If they ask, yes. Plus, the insurance company will be testing for nicotine residue.

Isn't gonna matter, they are going to take your blood, and this will reveal whether you are a smoker or not.
