How to handle this car accident situation?

I was house sitting/pet sitting for a man that went out of town for a week. During that time he loaned me his extra car to use with a full tank of gas as part of my payment. While using his car, I accidentally backed into my mothers parked car. His car is fine, but her front bumper is dented along with her fender. I told him about it right after it happened and he said he would call his insurance company. He said that he would have to pay a 1,000 dollar deductable and his rate would go up 40 dollars each month which he is not willing to do. He said I will have to pay to fix the damage to my mothers car. I cannot afford it right now. What should I do?

like Paul said its an easy fix...your mom just says it happened in a parking lot or at the supermarket..other wise i guess you will have to sort it out with your mom..

See if your mom has comp and collision and see if her insurance will cover it. Have her say it happened in a parking lot at the store. That other guy has a high deductible so his insurance might not be that great to begin with. If her car is still drivable see if she's willing to wait until you save up enough, or if it really needs to be fixed at all. If it's an older car she may be willing to let it slide. Just find someone to knock the major dent out and find a bumper from a wrecking yard and have them put it on. It will save you a lot of bucks. There's a lot of guys willing to do this on the side for cash when they're off from work. Stop by a couple body shops and ask around. Good luck.

You should pay for the damage to your mothers car, it was your fault, not his.
