My dog ate chocolate covered wafer cookies!?

She ate at least 6 of them. The cookies are the sugar wafers dipped in chocolate. She seems fine right now. What's the worst that can happen? A stomachache? I can't afford a vet bill right now. Can anybody give me some advice??

    Chocolate Covered Wafers

  • No, she might not be alright, dogs cannot have chocolate! They usually do not show any side effects till a day later. Take her to your vet asap, she could die. I have an 86 lbs. German Shepherd and she snuk up on the counter and ate 3 choco-chip cookies and was a very scarey situation. Don't mess around with this, take her to the vet. Vets are very understanding to costly bills and emergencies. You can make payments. The bill wont be high anyway, since chocolate is so terribly bad for dogs; there are very affordable remedies for this issue. Please don't wait.

Depends on the type of chocolate. The toxin is theobromine and the concentration of that depends on what type of chocolate (milk, semi-sweet, Baker's, etc.)

A friend's dog broke open a box of chocolate candy and ate about half. We called poison control (apparently they are use to panic calls involving dogs and chocolate) and they were able to reassure us that the type he got into was pretty harmless. So try calling and giving them the details.

Milk chocolate takes roughly 1 oz per pound of dog to be fatal. If she had even half of that, I would induce vomiting, that's all the vet will really have you do if you call anyhow. You can induce vomiting by mixing hydrogen peroxide with water, 3% peroxide, 97% water.

dogs can die from eating chocolate because its like poisiness too them.

im sure she'll be fine make sure she drinks lots of water to clense the chocolate out of her body shell probly vomit later on tonight and have diarrhea.

if she's not acting her self you should take her to a vet!

    goodluck!

Take your dog to a veterinarian's office and see what they can do for her.

    Good Luck!

She'll be fine, she'd have to eat a pound of chocolate for it to be poisonous to her.

probably not too bad. depending on the size of the dog. unless it is a quite small dog, it might just throw up and be a little sick.
