Would Adam and Eve have been able to have children, originally?

The Adam and Eve story does not tell us whether they were capable of reproduction before they were banished from the Garden.

What if they were not? Would the human race have existed if Eve had not taken that world-beginning bite of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge?

After all, God made Adam out of clay or dust, and Eve out of a rib bone; perhaps they were not fully human at that point.

None of the animals He made were said to have been created that way.

And if the whole human race was to have descended from them, they would have needed DNA that was foreign to each other so there would not be inbreeding and a weakening of the genome in future generations.

Could the snake wound around the tree be a symbol for DNA, that as soon as Eve acquired human DNA and shared it with Adam, they were no longer spirits in the Garden but were full human beings, capable of reproduction?

What are your thoughts?

God cloning Eve from Adams rib would have made her Adams twin brother Steve.

And I wonder why Christians have a tough time with homosexuals.

Mom C, if I may be so bold, Genesis 1:22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply……was talking to the 6th day creation. The 8th day Adam that was formed was not told to multiply because the whole reason they (Adam and Eve) were formed for the blood line of Jesus to come through. In fact, the 6th day man were hunters and fisher men and God knew they were going to meet a lot of women. God made Adam a farmer to make sure he stuck around.

Adam and Eve had not yet had sex until in the garden satan tricked Eve into having sex with him and that relationship produced Cain. Sounds crazy I know but that is what the word tells us.

Would Adam and Eve have been able to have children, originally?

    * Yes.

    Clay or dust ?

    * The chemical elements in the dust/clay are the same that exist in the human body, and at the same proportions. It was a simple way to say that God created us out of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, calcium, etc.

My thoughts align with Yoganandas that there is no need for sexual reproduction except when someone is bound to the senses. Therein lies the pleasure and the pain of the ego/mind level of being. Angels are spiritual beings as we are but they are not bound. Masters are human being as we are, but they are not bound.

Most worldly people do not understand they invite souls into the world either with intent and love or with ignorance and indifference. We do not require the senses to invite a soul into the world. That we do is the result of our fall from Grace and the suffering that comes with that fall/mistaken idea of Reality.

Up to That point - everything that God created Was Good -- so Why would His creation of man and woman be any different. The curse from God said that "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing -- with pain you will birth to children." They were driven out of the garden and couldn't go back, but that didn't prevent them from having children. You present some 'what if's' Eating of that fruit simply brought Death into the world. They would Not be living forever in a perfect world that God had created for them. They Did produce three sons -- the human race Did go on. We are proof of that.

True God created the animals - - man was made special -- which refutes evolution. God also created the animal world to be dominated by man. He told Adam to name everything he saw. That was elevating man from the animal world. Since God told us exactly what was happening at that time, don't you think He'd also tell us the point at which He gave Adam and Eve DNA ?

Since God created Adam out of the dust of the earth and breathed life into him, How would they be considered Spirits in the Garden. Maybe DNA was in the Forbidden fruit? But that would not have been Human DNA -- so That would Not have made them Full human beings. Plants produce Plants not People. Animals produce other Animals, not People. People produce other people.

Your 'what if's and 'perhaps' comments are simply that -- they are Not representative of Facts.

Do not know about the snake being DNA but we have almost the same dna as apes only a tiny bit does not match. They cannot talk but the can learn sign language.

It's an interesting question, ((((Sara)))). My guess would be yes. Although I view Adam and Eve as the offspring of an ancestor not having free will, and them being the first humans, to me, means they were given the gift of free will, a gift their parents were denied.

There is more to this story than we understand.. like the rest of the bible and other books trying to tell our history, is not for all to understand it.. and we derive different explanations to it. so Adam [the adam] Genesis-- let US create in our image ... ? the snake represents our D.N.A. yes.. the fruit forbidden is knowledge, that would eventually lead us to be like "them" the gods... it is very interesting.. forbidden , hidden.. certainly we cannot have descended from one set of beings for we are all different races, languages etc, and besides the story of Adam and Eve is one side of it from the perspective of the middle East... Arabians, Hebrews.. but the Amerindians of the new world have a most beautiful story of the creation of man and his world... and I like the new world story better. It gives more races, languages, laws, and the reason we were created....

God even said that when they were banished from the garden, that the childbearing would be made painful for women. So clearly it was around before, it just wasn't painful.

Adam and Eve were humans, they would have gotten horny, and would have ended up experimenting.

What many people forget about this, is the fact that people lived a very very long time. The bible says that some of them have lived up to 700 to 800 years. That is inconceivable today because of the major sin which has affected our civilization. In that time period, God allowed what we call "inbreeding" today without consequence. He only allowed this for a certain amount of time in order to populate the earth. This was very early in the beginning of the Old Testament. But, eventually a certain amount of time passes where you get to the book of Leviticus in the bible. Here you will find a list of forbidden sex practices including what is now known as incest. The Old Testament is a book of several centuries, so things evolved and changed and God wrote a new law. Now in the New Testament the same law applies. If you look around, many people conceived from an incestual relationship were born with mental and physical disabilities. This is partly the result of people's disobedience to God. The only exception is rape. If a person is raped by a close relative, it is the fault of the rapist, not the person who it happened to. With God all things are possible. So he could have made it possible for a time until such time the new law took effect.
