Oops, Maybe - Birth Video and Toddler Question?
So I was rewatching the video of my daughter's birth (muted) when she snuck up behind me at the critical moment (delivery). I didn't know she was behind me until she said, "Momma, vulva, baby!" She's now 2 1/2 yrs old, I don't think she's been 'scarred' by it. She went back to playing when it was over a couple minutes later and hasn't mentioned it since.
I didn't want to freak out, so I explained to her that was her when she was a little baby. She seemed way more interested in the fact that Mom, Dad and her Gramma were in a movie. I don't think I should be worried about this but . . .
I suppose there's nothing I can do about it now but I am slightly concerned. I just keep telling myself that many children watch the birth of their younger sibling and seem to be fine. Should I be more concerned or just let it go? Opinions please ladies . . .
Thanks Sosumi! I guess *I*was the one who needed reassurance : )

Let it go. If you treat birth as something shameful, that is what your daughter is going to take away from that video. Now I wouldn't make viewing the vid a daily exercise for her, but there is nothing wrong in her seeing that footage briefly. Birth is natural and your child should have a general idea of where babies come from. But like you said, she is more intrigued by seeing gma and daddy than the actual subject of the film. Also you are right, many young children are present for the birth of younger siblings. Not a big deal.

Stop worrying. It's really not that big of a deal. Birth is a very natural process and the younger kids know that, the less they will fear it.
My oldest was present at her brothers births and my oldest son along with my oldest were present for their younger brothers birth. I already explained to them that they will here unpleasant noises but mommy is fine and there's nothing to worry about.

i wouldn't worry about it. if she isn't asking any questions then chances are she either doesn't care, doesn't realize what was going on or has forgot about it. at such a young age she won't remember that anyway
