Probably not too much. The banking system is extracting a huge proportion of the national GDP. How do you think they pay the multimillion dollar salaries of almost everyone on Wall Street? To pay these exorbitant salaries, they have to extract value out of the monetary stream. When they are extracting billions for excessive exuberance and excessive salaries, there is little left to "trickle down" to the masses.
People are no longer materially affected by huge moves in the market. Most don't even pay taxes, much less invest anything. Regretfully, it is only when the populace has a vested interest in the stock market that they give a hoot if it succeeds or fails. Since the majority don't care...it can fail and barely out draw Lady Gaga on the interest meter.

Could trigger another collapse in stock markets etc. Remember September 2008? Like that only worse.
