Sculpting with marshmallow fondant?
I'm making a cake for a girlfriend's 21st and want to sculpt little farm animals. However, normal fondant is really not great tasting, can I use marshmallow instead? I've heard it tastes really nice, but I've never worked with it before. Any help or advice would be fantastic, thanks!
Also, you don't think a farm animal cake for a girl's 21st is too immature do you? Naaaaahhh, not if it's cute enough =)
Okay Danny D...now what? Gah, now I can't hear any of the advice people are giving me =P

Kim's right.....marshmallow fondant just doesn't seem to work well for sculpting flowers or figures. I'm a cake decorating teacher, and I advise students who prefer the flavor of marshmallow fondant (yes, it does taste a LOT better!) to cover their cakes with it, but use purchased fondant for sculpting.
You can flavor purchased fondant to make it more tasty by adding concentrated flavor oils or regular flavor extracts (vanilla, butter, almond, lemon, orange, etc.) For extracts, you will use about 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons per 24 oz. of fondant. For flavored oils, you'd use about 1/4 teaspoon or less per 24 oz. of fondant. Just knead the extract or oil into the fondant. (Best to first create a little well in the middle of the fondant, then put the liquid in there, gently fold over the fondant, put inside a Ziploc bag, close it, and knead through the bag to avoid getting too sticky.)
Happy Decorating!

Marshmallow fondant is very hard to sculpt with. It's very soft and takes too long to dry. Cover the cake with the marshmallow fondant and buy or make normal fondant for the sculpture. Good luck!

little farm animals would be cute.
Do NOT put a banana in your ear.
Never tasted marshmallow fondant.
If it has the same texture as regular fondant, little farm animals should be no more difficult to make than play doh animals are.
The decorators at the bakery I work at make all kinds of little critters, babies, acorns, animals, all kinds of stuff out of fondant.
