Porsche Carrera 4S - Dead battery can't open hood.?

Hi, I have a Porsche Carrera 4S. The battery is dead and in order to change the battery I need to pop the hood. Only problem is that the hood is opened electronically. Any ideas :)? Thanks!

You don't mention which Carrera 4S you have... cars of this names were produced for the 993 ('96-'98), 996 ('02-'04), and the 997 ('05-present). There are three basic methods that can apply, although not all will work with all models or be done the same way.

    1) Jump the hood latch from the fuse box

    2) Charge the battery through the cigarette lighter

    3) Access the hood release cable

The first is straight forward, though I don't think this is an option with the 993 as the fusebox is actually in the trunk (not positive, but off hand I do not think this was relocated from it's earlier locations). Connect the positive terminal from a good battery to the fuse that operates the front latch (check your manual or Google for a wiring diagram for your particular car), and then ground to the door or similar spot on the chassis... should do the trick.

For the second, use a charger that connects to the cigarette lighter and that's it (easiest if you have such a charger).

The the third, you access the cable and pull it manually. For the 996 and 997 models the cable can be access either from behind the front left headlight or through the left front wheel well (near the spring at the edge of the wheel well you'll find a corner on the inner cover, pull back and you should find a small cable behind it... pull hard away from the headlight and you should hear the trunk open). 993 is similar and should be documented in the owner's manual (the fusebox method should be documented in the 996 and 997 owner's manual).

Opened electronically? I have never heard of that, and if that is true, there has to be a backup way to open it, incase your battery dies.
