I was a vegetarian for several years. The main thing is to learn how to properly balance your proteins and carbohydrates. If you do not accomplish this you can loose strength and health.

    /

There are a number of good books on the subject and I am sure many more since I was vegetarian.

To learn how to prepare meals and good recipes contact a 7th Day Adventist Church in your area. They often present cooking classes. You do not need to be a member of the church to attend.

Although I am not a strict vegetarian now, I eat very little red meat but do eat chicken and fish. Good luck to you as I still enjoy the vegetarian diet and prefer it although circumstances make it difficult to continue.

First shop the farmer's market if you have access to one. Then shop the outside of the supermarket where the fresh veggies, dairy products if you'll be eating them are. Think whole grains like rice, beans, nuts and corn for your proteins which does include things like tofu and tempeh which are available at most supermarkets these days. Look to the internet for a few recipe ideas. Mexican food , Italian food all have great examples of veggie foods. Sit down on the weekend and say it's Italian week buy some salad, zucchini, egg plant, onions, garlic, grated cheese, tomato sauce, pasta, bread salad, pizza dough, mushrooms. Mix these things up. Use the most perishable ingredients first and make or buy some fun desserts or buy something like ice cream or Tofutti soy based frozen desserts. .

in simple terms the single. A vegetarian is defined as someone who does no longer devour meat, fish, hen nor slaughter by technique of-products. Its been that way because the be conscious first entered dictionaries in 1847. I dont' understand why human beings have, contained in the most suitable 10 years, tried to deprave it. the authentic definition is more suitable than those tries and could outlive them. The veggie society defiend the be conscious on the request of the Oxford and Chambers dictionaries, so, if all of us could recognize, its them. They use the above defintion and the following is how they boost on it: "We outline a vegetarian as someone living on a eating routine of grains, pulses, nuts, seeds, vegetables and end result, with or without using dairy products and eggs. A vegetarian does no longer devour any meat, hen, recreation, fish, shellfish or crustacea, or slaughter by technique of-products." existence should be extremely basic if we enable it to be.

Have you even heard of anyone ever having a protein deficiency?

    Uhm ..... no.

Protein is in so many different foods.

DO YOUR RESEARCH - I cannot stress this enough.

Buy a vegetarian cookbook - learn to cook.

It also depends on how far you are going.

    Lacto vegetarians eat dairy products.

    Ovo vegetarians eat eggs.

Lacto ovo vegetarians eat dairy and eggs.

The pescataerean - or whatever - the people who claim they are vegetarian, but still eat fish or chicken - are not real vegetarians. Fishes and chickens are still animals.

Vegans do not eat any animals or animal by products - no dairy or eggs or honey, etc.

Some vegetarians look out for cheeses with animal rennet, casein, etc. in them and do not eat them.

Some vegetarians also look out for gelatin, animals broths or stocks, and other things in foods but as well as beauty or cleaning products.

So it depends on you personally and what you are and are not comfortable with.

Take this at your own pace on your own time.

There are many name brand products that are great to use - like Silk, Amy's, Quorn, Morningstar, etc. etc.

If you have any more questions feel free to contact me - I would be glad to help you.

Source(s): Personal experience. I am a vegetarian, the only one in my whole family, so is my boyfriend and he is a cook. I also have a friend who is vegan.

You got food poisoning from an undercooked steak? That's odd. I would report that to your local public health department. Odds are they are not up to code with food safety and regulations. Getting poisoned from an undercooked steak is rare(no pun intended I assure you). Since steaks are commonly ordered rare. As long as the outside is seared it kills the bacteria. They must not be storing their food properly or cross-contaminated it with something else.

As far as protein sources: Beans, lentils, tofu(cheese and eggs if you still want to eat those),nuts and seeds.

When it comes to ingredients. Look at labels. Avoid by products like rennet(found in some cheeses). No Jello.

Ask restaurants what oil they fry in before ordering something like fried pickles or mushrooms.
