Are there any religious rituals that are illegal despite the guarantee of Free Exercise in the US Constitution?

I'm assuming that human ritual sacrifice like what was practiced in ancient civilizations isn't protected, right? What else, if any?

Animal sacrifice and sex with underage children, while part of the practices of some small denominations, is illegal.

However, I would note that certain sorts of drug use, including ingestion of peyote, has been cleared as legal by the courts within strict religious limits.

Use of certain illegal substances, animal sacrifice (unless I suppose the animal was being slaughtered for food), human sacrifice, and certain dealings with fire. For example, if there's a no burn order due to drought, I seriously doubt you'd be allowed to kindle a bonfire or outdoor blaze even as part of a religious ritual.

It's ok to pass laws that have an incidental effect of prohibiting certain religious practices as long as the law wasn't specifically designed to "go after" religious adherents, and as long as the law passes the strict scrutiny test (the strongest type of test that laws have to satisfy, used when deciding if a law improperly discriminates on the basis of race, national origin, religion). The law has to be:

    * justified by a compelling governmental interest,

    * narrowly tailored to achieve this goal,

    * the least restrictive means for achieving that interest.

there is not any hassle-free answer. You quote the Barbary Treaty of 1796 as affirming the openness of the U. S. to all religions and all Gods. This record grew to become approximately 6 years after the form grew to become ratified and 5 years after the invoice of Rights grew to become better. Neither of those documents element out no rely if the U. S. is for or detrimental to Christianity. in reality nowhere does it element out Christianity in any appreciate. as properly the easy actuality that the suggestion are that many of the founding fathers have been Christains and fairly some the the guidelines and rules of this united states of america are abased on Christian morals. The founding fathers had to supply a united states of america that has the liberty of faith or non-relgion. that is believed by way of many that using fact the U. S. grew to become formed from colonialization and the puritan and diverse Christian impacts, the county grew to become in accordance with Chirstian priciples and is consequently a Christian united states of america. it incredibly is in part unquestionably. that is unquestionably with reference to the purtians and founding fathers, that is unquestionably that the suitable public of human beings are some type of Christians (which includes Catholics). as properly the easy actuality that that is likewise unquestionably the the 1st substitute is extremely ambiguous. there is an extremely sturdy stress is the 1st substitute. First, it says we can't make rules establishing faith, then it says we can't restrict loose exersice (or ones selection now to no longer exersice.) loose exersice is the area it gets loopy. case in point: having volunatry college prayer, might desire to correctly be seen as corercing faith and Christianity on thoses that are literally no longer regilgious, yet banning college prary might desire to correctly be seen as prhibiting ones loose exersice. many of the time there is super stress, and fairly some the time it comes perfect right down to the wording of the guidelines. yet we'd desire to purpose to comprehend all prespectives.

For a long period of time, the US government banned the Lakota Sioux Sun Dance, and Ghost Dance.

I'm not sure when that changed, but now they can practice their religion freely, as they should be

The old testament calls for animal sacrifices.

Pew Pew is spewing lies. Satanism follows all laws.

  • A biggie is that while adults in snake handling congregations are allowed to handle snakes, youth below the age where they are judged to be able to give informed consent are not, even with parental consent.

    Misread the question.

A form of Satanism requires a human sacrifice. Usually they kill small babies or someone volunteers to get torched. That is outlawed. Oh, so is the KKK
