I'm the only Atheist among my friends, and I don't try and convert any of them, just like they don't try and convert me. And that's the way it's supposed to be.
I only start going on about it when someone tackles me on the subject. Then we start exchanging facts....well I throw facts at the one who's arguing with me, and they retaliate with statements based on assumptions and 'faith' (faith = believing in something without a shred of proof that it's true/real)
My opinion is that religion is something man conjured up in their quest to understand where we came from, where everything came from. In history, there's records of thousands and thousands of so called gods, all created to help explain things ranging from thunder, to the oceans, love and war...you name it. As we became more advanced, most of them died out (ironic don't you think?). Only a few still cling on to what they believe, while all the facts point to them too, being wrong.
It's quite clear why religion started if you think about it that way, and no one can hold it against them, since at that point in time, they had no better way of explaining it. But now we do.
It's not my place to tell religious people they're silly for believing in scriptures written by people who knew no better, and recorded history as best, and correctly as they can, with their limited understanding of simple elements which we are quite familiar with today, even at a young age.
It's up to them to believe what they want to believe, just like I choose to look at things logically, realistically and objectively by comparing facts with facts.
Facts are that your prayers don't get answered - proof of this is that there's still war, hunger and suffering.
Facts are that most statements about religion are unfalsifiable - just like the flying spaghetti monster
Facts are that most religious people ignore thousands of other religions, yet fail to realize that the only difference between them and Atheists, are that Atheists ignore 1 more god than they do.

I don't admire any ideals. What I admire are sound reasoning and a willingness to recollect new evidence. So for those who consider I don't have any thought say evolution, i don't recognize that plenty as I admire the inspiration process at the back of it. When you don't believe in evolution, nevertheless then transformed your mind in view that I confirmed you convincing proof, then i could appreciate that too. However religion could no longer do that. Religious ideals are (the morality of them aside) a end assumed without proof, and more often than not defended closer to all evidence to the opposite. There's not anything virtuous approximately that. I don't recognize a closed mind. If anything it will get the reverse it has my contempt.

I don't care If people are religious, I really don't.
If they wish to believe in a god, good for them.
What I dislike is the draconian view of religions that "we believe, we have faith, and we must convert others to believe as we do"; as I feel it would been more respectful If they wouldn't preach to every john and jane and just let people who wish to believe come to the conclusion themselves and sign themselves up for Church and Bible-readings and all the rest.

I am respectful of most people, if of course they are respectful of me.
The problem is as a non believer most religious people do not respect me. Some pity me, some dislike me, some wouldn't let their kids mix with mine, some believe I should burn in hell, some believe I will just die and Im not as worthy as them etc...
Therefore I do not respect their religious views but I may respect them as a person.

Yes. Same way, same thing. Agreed.
1. Make a law that says all religion is mythology.
2. Leave freedom of mythology alone.

A religion is a social construct that utilizes a myth with a supernatural/otherworldly/spiritual aspect in order to provide social stability through rituals/rites and subsequently a common culture.

Everyone should be able to believe what they want. What they DO in the name of their religion is what can tick me off.

I want to get rid of religion so future history textbooks don't make my entire generation seem like retarded apes thinking that a magical, invisible man in the sky made everything.
