I am not sure. Perhaps it is partly true. I know for years the service dog schools trained Poodles for people with dog allergies. I never knew anybody that was given a Poodle, but never heard of one being rejected because their partner was allergic to it.

There is a saliva test you can give dogs and sort out ones with less allergens. The right Lab might work.

@Patrick Star has a point, people would much rather trust their own limited experience or what they have always heard than a careful, controlled study. I can't believe the ignorance I see here everyday.

Because until people experience things for themselves, they believe anything they hear. I have a cousin who is going to be 59 years old in a couple of weeks. She and all family members have had dogs all their lives and there was never a problem with ANY breed or mix. Well, when I had my Bulldog, she was HIGHLY allergic to her saliva, but nothing else and never with any other dog in all those years. Go figure. When someone has issues, it may not even be with ALL dogs, but even just a certain dog. It's probably not that common, but true in the case of my cousin thus far.
