Honda Civic starter won't turn over?

The starter in my 1994 Civic DX with a 1.5 liter engine doesn't get any voltage from the ignition switch. I checked the ignition switch and there is no voltage even getting to the switch. My cars electric system has been taped up by a previous owner so I can't track the wires very well. what wire brings the electric voltage to the switch ? Does this wire come straight from the BATTERY to the switch ? Thank you for any help. I bought a manual for the car but the Haynes manual doesn't show what wire brings the power into the switch, very vague wiring diagram.

Update:

If it is a fusible link, does anyone know where it is ? I have checked all of the fuses in both fuse boxes and they are good.

There are special manuals that are just wiring diagrams. For something this difficult, you would need that book. It will show the wire color and size, but not where it goes. The voltage probably goes though a fusible link. The taped wiring worries me. Obviously, something was wrong at one point. Could be why the previous owner sold the car.

Automotive electrical systems are too complicated for most DIY people. Actually, they are so complicated that most mechanics can only do the basics. Tracing wires can be very difficult so I would suggest letting an auto electrical shop do it.

Additional: Why on earth would anyone give this a thumbs down. How about enlightening us with your wisdom.

Rob: glad that you are really smart for your age, congratulations. The post says there is no voltage from the ignition switch and you think it is spark plugs?

are trying pushing greater good on the shifter once you place it into park, to make certain that's extremely there. whether that's likely in park surely, it looks like your independent secure practices change may well be going. It makes optimistic which you do no longer attempt to start the vehicle in a rigidity kit, so it only makes it conceivable for installation in independent and park. whether it could no longer initiate in park, then something in that circuit is appearing up. even even with the undeniable fact that, if it was my vehicle, i might in basic terms initiate it in independent for now on. that's now no longer a extensive inconvenience and no longer valued on the few hundred it ought to take to repair it.

  • look in the fuse box for a blown fuse. there should be two boxes, one in the engine bay is where i would start. according to my book, it is a 50 amp fuse, but it could be in either fuse box.

does it sound like the engine is trying to start or nothing

If nothing then it is a loose wire and you will need to find it

If sound then it could be spark plugs in the engine

Source(s): im so smart for my age on this stuff
