My supervisors keep threating to take money from my check...?

I've been working for this company for a few months now and I keep making some mistakes. An example is I took a personal check, which we were not allowed to do (I didn't know that), and the check was not approved. My supervisors keep telling me if the lady does not pay then they will take the money from my check. Is that legal? Can they really take money from my pay checks if that lady never pays? Also, I had forgot to clock either in or out one day and it threw off the rest of the week. They told me I was responsible for making sure my times are correct and they will correct it this time but next time it will be my job to make catch the error and if I forget to clock in then I will not be compensated for that time. Is it legally possible for them to do that too? Of course I'm going to make sure I do everything right, but I think these threats are ridiculous.

There are other things that have happened I can't think of right now. But I will post them if they come up.

Update:

Omg! No, I accepted a personal check from a customer for payment to the hotel. I did not steal! And I understand if I make too many mistakes I can be fired... The question is Is it legal for them to take money out of my pay? I know what I am responsible for and I know too many mistakes can lead to me getting fired. However they have to follow protocol too and I haven't even gotten a write up.

No it wouldn't be legal to take the money from your paycheck.

But it would be legal to fire you.

When getting paid, salary deductions are not allowed. If you work, you get paid, no matter if you forget to clock in, company may have a rules and regulations, maybe a suspension without pay, but, if working, you get paid. Sounds like you may need to get serious about your employment responsibilities, and follow the procedures. Most places allow for mistakes and errors, but, if show a history, and continues after warnings,write-ups, could be terminated, and collecting unemployment may be challenged by the company, showing you were warned, andat fault, and company could win, thus, not be able to collect unemployment. In short, you may have deductions, such as uniforms, shoes, etc, but, money from earnings can not be taken back, or be deducted from payroll. Companies have insurance for such matters,as the check, but, could be disiplined somehow. Be responsible and take the job serious. Learn from the past mistakes, move forward, learn and develop your job skills. Good luck to ya!

If you employed someone and they constantly made mistakes which cost you money, would you not fire this person?

If you are continually making mistakes, you are not much use to your employer and may soon face termination.

The threats are not "ridiculous". You are no longer in high school playing games. You are in the real adult world being given a chance in life by people trying to run a business.

My honest person is that you are too immature and childlike to be in the adult workforce.

let me get this straight, you wrote a personal check, cashed it at your employment and it bounced? Or worse you stole a personal check? Both are essentially criminal fraud..

Yes, they can take money from your check to pay it. and if you fail to clock in and out, that is YOUR problem. It is entirely legal.

the consistent feature in this question is YOUR behavior.

Sounds as if you are irresponsible at best.. You need to figure out and fix why you

If your employer has not fired you, I'd suggest you correct YOUR behavior and attitude.

They still have to pay you, but can fire you or not following clock in policies. As far as the check goes, they should have trained you a bit better and they would have avoided that. You have her name adress and phone number, find that lady and get her to pay. But your bosses a ***** and should not be acting like that.
