Would you donate money to pay down the deficit if the budget were balanced?

If the federal government passed a balanced budget amendment, and actually balanced the budget without raising taxes, I think they could then ask the American people for voluntary contributions to retire the national debt. Right now, every time the government gets more money, they spend twice as much as they get. No one wants to give them more money only to see them use it to get deeper in debt. It is like giving money to a drug addict or a gambler. The more money you give them, the bigger the problem gets. But, if they go to rehab and prove they can live clean and sober, then you don't mind helping to put their life back together. So, I believe that with a balanced budget amendment, the government could restore faith with the American people. At that point, they could ask for voluntary contributions to paydown the debt. I think that once they were assured that the money wouldn't be wasted, the American people would be willing to help out. Perhaps this is a naive hope. I'd like your input on the matter.

I would not consider it without being able to write the check directly to the creditor. No way in hell I trust congress with ANY extra money.

It would be more responsible to build a big bonfire and burn my money.

The Federal government government will never do anything but "creative accounting" to balance the budget just like back in the 1990's. Sure the budget was better then but balanced ?? I checked the math. Not even close.

I do wish your plan would be implemented but we need honest politicians to do so. If the politicians were honest we would not need the balanced budget amendment.

because of the fact your complicated 2 separate themes. Tax cuts continually pay for them selves., they continually generate extra tax sales than the tax cuts decreased. yet that on my own won't get rid of the deficit, if Congress spends extra money than is paid in tax's. You ignored the spending area !!!!!!!!!! Reagan had a democratic congress, that spent money like a under the impression of alcohol sailor. Clinton enhance tax's while he had a democratic congress and nonetheless had deficits yet while the Republicans controlled congress and cut back tax's and decreased spending, we had a surplus. in the 4 years Bush had a republican congress ( 2003 - 2007 ) be conscious: in case you probably did no longer be attentive to it, Bush did no longer have a republican congress from 2001 to 2003, the Senate grow to be democratic occasion controlled style June 2001 to January 2003 in the 4 years Bush had a Republican Congress, and the tax cuts, the deficit went down each and each year. The defict did no longer srat to bypass returned up, till the democrats gained administration over congress and commenced spending like under the impression of alcohol sailors Federal spending extra suitable 32% in the 1st 3 years of the Pelosi/Ried congress.

I already donate money to pay down the debt against my will. If I donated money of my own free will what the hell would make you think they would not misspend it as they have with the money I donate against my will.
