To those who cannot understand: Why would you think...?

...that the answer to questions about God and Jesus and the Bible would give you insight into how a christian can believe in that which he/she does not physically see? I see lots of questions about how could God do this or how can you provide proof of this, etc...we (christians) have said over and over (and scripture clearly confirms it-see reference below) that it is impossible to grasp these spiritual, supernatural things without the Spirit of God in you, guiding your thoughts. Of course you cannot see it! Neither could I or any christian until faith (trust) came into our hearts. Even then, in the beginning, we did not see or understand most of it. In time, with study and prayer (basically one word...Obedience) we grow spiritually and understand more, just as any child does after he/she enters first grade, and so on. Maybe you do not hope for insight. Maybe you just ask out of curiosity and never gain ground into understanding, and that's enough for you. I truly think there are some that yearn for God and yet refuse the simple plan He has ordained. "Trust me first, then I will give you eternal riches." It is so very simple and yet so beyond us. We have to admit we are helpless. We have to own our moral error (sin). We have to bow to the will of another, one we cannot see. These acts of surrender are the barriers we will not succomb to, because it involves admitting we are inadequate. Interesting that this one feeling, inadequacy, is in my opinion the gist whereby most relationships fail. We all hate the feeling of 'I am not good enough as I am.' It is true of us all. We are not...spiritually speaking. And if eternity is a reality, as we (christians) know it is, as God is, then our spiritual health is all that matters. God can and will cover all the other bases.

See for reference (if so inclined) 1st Corinthians 2:14.

Update:

The suggestions for line breaks and paragraphs is a good one. Thx. I knew it was too much. I guess I felt the need to elaborate to promote understanding. Foolish man that I am! It did not help.

It is confirmed once again, no matter how a christian says it, it will ALWAYS be folly to those who cannot see.

What you are saying is this:

"You have to believe what I believe in order to interpret reality the way I do."

This is a plea for confirmation bias. If you don't know what that is, Google it.

First, would it kill ya to throw in a paragraph break every once in a while? A block of rant text is difficult to read.

Second, I've been reading the bible probably since before you were born, and I understand it just fine, and I'm still an atheist. You can rationalize all you like about how someone could disagree with you regarding the bible, but that doesn't change the fact that most of the world doesn't agree with you.

"that the answer to questions about God and Jesus and the Bible would give you insight into how a christian can believe"

It gives tons of insight in the motivations of Christians.

"it is impossible to grasp these spiritual, supernatural things without the Spirit of God in you, guiding your thoughts"

That just you excusing the fact that other people see nonsense for what it is.

Source(s): If you have to believe before you get evidence, there is another word for that: delusion.

Thanks for being respectful, but let me tell you this.

I was once a Christian, just as Christian as you, and eventually I began to critically read the bible, keep in mind I was still Christian, and I began to see huge huge logical fallacies and horrible things in it.

How could a god that loved us so much send people to eternal damnation over something trivial. People speak of god's forgiveness, but this seems in direct violation to a loving and merciful god.

Also, how was the answer for humanity's sins to send down himself (but his son at the same time... is this up for debate amongst Christians?) to be sacrificed for everyone's sins. Why couldn't god just forgive us, why did he need to kill someone over it? That doesn't make any sense.

God aside, the bible is a huge issue for me, it makes very little sense and is incoherent at best. You have to admit there is GLARING contradictions in it. You also have to admit that there are some of god's rules (that Jesus did not clear up) that Christians are not following, why is it that some things are okay, but others are not? It seems to me that god's word should not be so easily up for interpretation. Lastly, the largest logical fallacy of all, the bible proves it's self, with the bible. Who wrote/inspired the bible -god. How do you know this, because it says so in the bible. That is a huge logic problem.

That's just SOME of my problems with Christianity, and that's just the basic doctrines of it, let alone the practices of it or it's followers.

Anyway, you are free to believe whatever you want, I won't stop you, but keep your book out of my life, my government, and my science.

It says so in the bible is not credible evidence to your claims.

What you and others like you fail to understand is that religion and god are archaic beliefs that have no practical use in modern day society.

This is the problem with religious people,, I cannot see it therefore it must be god. That type if thinking is being intellectual lazy or intellectual poverty.

Furthermore why does it have to be in accordance with christianity?

The only thing religion has done is hindered any and all scientific and social progress.

in case you already know some thing then you somewhat do no longer could desire to have faith it. At this point you could purely realize it. definite you could understand some thing you do no longer now or ever believed. seems such as you're able to decide for a holiday. for this reason you greater acceptable have faith it with out information it. in case you wait for information you're able to blow a gasket and then it would be too previous due. achievable=worth of concept? properly despite the fact that one you already know the least is the main achievable.

I see no point in asking for proof of what cannot be proven or disproven. However, I do not understand why you insist on writing that much text without touching your Enter key.

Line breaks make text much easier to read. A Wall Of Text does not convey information, because people have trouble reading it.

Well, then please explain all of those people who were christian for many many years and who had "the Spirit of God in" us. Our eyes were simply opened one day to the truth..and that truth was not christianity or islam or any other religion you speak of.

Your bible says, "see and you will find me when you seek with all of your heart"...well, I sought with all my heart...and found nothing.

    Mind control.

We want proof (well not really, but as you do go on)

and you say, you have to be deluded to understand.

Oh well I guess that sums it all up.

Feel free to look up deluded in the dictionary.

That whole "you need faith to understand it" stuff just sounds like you need the proper confirmation bias and desire for it to be true to me. Stuff that happens to work out becomes "proof" to support it, stuff that doesn't is covered under the "god works in mysterious ways" clause.
