Is dishonesty growing in epidemic proportions?

I dishonesty growing exponentially, or have I been at the wrong place at the wrong time far too often? For example, I trusted my building contractor and it turns out that he is dishonest. Perhaps I am far too naive. What's your story?

Update:

No, I am sure this is not something new, however like a bad weed it is multiplying very rapidly it seems. I am one who trusts blindly and have been bitten badly but I do not want to go around mistrusting everyone. There are so many wonderful people in the world and I believe you can loose the opportunity to interact with them if you start out mistrusting. What a dilemma!

It's not new but we are probably more exposed to it in today's society. We come in contact with more people from all over the world, we have more money to spend and more interests that makes us vulnerable when it comes to dishonesty.

It's my nature to not trust people. I check and double check everything and this far I've only been fooled once. We put in new windows in our house last year. There were errors, the wrong boards and they were not painted. The company promised to fix it "as soon as spring comes". We still have the wrong boards and they are unpainted. I think I dropped the ball because my husband became seriously ill and almost died when they put the windows in. I was a mess and they used it.

Surely you don't think that this is something new?
