What makes life worth living?

George Washington was revered for his inability to lie. It's almost as though he had a superpower. But what does this mean for us-- that lying is so common and expected we're amazed when we encounter people who don't lie? Everyone is a hypocrite. I just... can't stand this! The world, it doesn't make any sense at all to me. What's the point of living? What are we working towards? Putting our genes in a baby and moving on? We're born, we live shitty fake lives, we pass on our genes, and we die. And the world keeps spinning. It's worthless! Don't tell me to get goals, because I have some. At this point, the only reason I haven't... died... yet is to see what I can do in this world. Life is just so... pointless. I don't know if my curiosity can keep me hanging on any longer, because I want to leave the world more and more every day.

Update:

You don't understand... It's not about people living in some poor third world country. What makes any life worth living? You see, we're all living behind our own steaming piles of bullshit. Why should I live in a pile of **** even if I get to trade stocks in it? Stocks for what, by the way? Other, special kinds of ****? Is this making any sense at all, because I feel like it's a good metaphor. It's just a vicious, shallow circle that I want to escape.

yes i see your point but all you need to do is find something you love doing and then keep doing it ,for myself its stock trading and then giving away ½ of what i make in a year to different charities in Nepal so it makes a positive difference in their lives...

you do seem rather peed off and totally depressed - have you thought about going to your Doc for some anti - depressants ?

well they help many who are suicidal as some are more depressed than others..

I'm not going to criticize your views, because that would be truly hypocritical. I'm not going to lie, I'm only 17 yet I've been on the edge of suicide and I'm pretty sure i know exactly what you mean. What I've found, is that find something you absolutely have a passion for and delve right into it. For me, it's philosophy, and thats what has lead me here. But also, i enjoy helping people, so I'd love to help ya here. Anyway, you're right, people lie, and as a matter of fact I'm probably one of the best liars that I know of, but that doesn't demean the purpose of life, whatever that may be. I find that what makes me happy, is the fact that I've learned to just accept things and have learned to do things as I please. I don't mean to do whatever the **** you want, but if I know I'll enjoy something, I make a good effort to peruse it. I also wish to prove to people that even though I don't apply myself, and I don't fully utilize my potential, I still possess it and I can still aim high. I have found that goals in general don't really help as much as people claim they do, but if you make your goal include something you have a passion for, you will have much better chances at achieving your goal. :)

Sorry to the person below me, but I strongly disagree with the old " ANTI-DEPRESAANTS!!!!!!" approach. I've been depressed, I've almost killed myself, but I'm better now and I never touched anti-depressants. When you figure out how to best make yourself happy and you realize you did it without help, the self-satisfaction will be overwhelming. Its a great feeling knowing you conquered your own problem all by yourself.

I hear you and have thought many of the same things.

    I have debt.

I have to work for probably the rest of my life.

    Stress everyday.

    Eat 3 times a day.

    Get enough sleep.

Go to birthdays and get together's when I really don't want to.

Spend money I don't have on people at christmas.

The list just goes on and on and on.

Personally I have enough to deal with in my life so I don't take crap from anyone (like in public) and am not afraid to speak my mind.

    Now, is life worth living?

Yes, but you (and me) have to make it worth living.

I try to be positive and treat everyone with respect (until they lose it).

    I love Art and Nature.

I want to get a motorcycle and travel. That is one of my dreams.

Don't get me started on driving though cause I will never stop.

If you want to see the public at it's absolute selfish worst - drive on the road.

Life is meaningless and I dare you to look at how many people die each year on the road in any given Country. It's ridiculous!

Well, have a great day and life. I wish you all the best!

Live to appreciate what you have today - tomorrow may never come.

Live to make a difference in other peoples lives - be it in a big or small way. Be good to yourself, and be good to others. Be happy.

George Washington didn't tell lies? I am pretty sure that is a myth.

Anyway, what makes life worth living is different for different people.
