Do you remember when they sold ketchup in different colours?

>Heinz marketed that idea. They have a very special (one of a kind only) varietal that they developed, low in water and high in solids specifically for making their own catsups. BTW I work in the food industry as a food technologist and have worked with condiments for years...the reason why it didn't last is because there wasn't enough acerage to grow enough green and yellow tomatoes with to keep the supply chain filled. While it was also a marketing gimmik, consumers did not really find yellow catsup or green, for that matter, very appealing. Low sales returns, or low profit combined with limited supply, pretty much killed the entire idea.

Yes, Heinz sold it in a variety of colors (red, green, purple, pink and blue). Sales were pretty good for a while, but I would imagine that was while it was a novelty. I'm sure the novelty wore off fairly quickly. They start that crazy trend in 2000 with green. Other colors came gradually after that, with blue being introduced in 2003. I remember those crazy striped bottles though. I never bought any. Yuck!
