Need The Name of a Town with Cliffs?
Hi, I hope I'm in the right area to have this answered. My agent is shopping my young adult manuscript to the major publishing houses at this moment. She's selling the idea as a series. I'm working on book two, which has my main characters traveling to England from the US for some English haunting action.
What I need is a town/village near large cliffs. I can make a village up, but I still need to research the area so I can get a general feel for the place. It has to be rural, yet about an hour away from London. I'm half-way through the manuscript and still haven't found the right area, despite researching like mad. I was looking at Worthing, but I don't know if there are any cliffs.
Yes, I was considering Dover. It's very famous. Are there rural towns located near Dover? Would it be strange to have a made up castle along an isolated area of the cliffs? It doesn't have to be exactly an hour, it could be an hour and a half; just as long as my characters can take a quick jaunt and come back without adding plot holes by being gone too long from the main setting.

There's always the white cliffs of Dover. Maybe a little more than an hour away from London, but close.

THere is no town with cliffs an hour from london. There is Dover or Brighton which have cliffs, but it takes more than an hour to get there by car. I hope this helps.
EDIT: There are about 51 million people in England and England is about 130373 Square Km. TO give you some comparison, California has a population of only 36 Million and is about three times bigger with 403934 square Km. More than 70% of the world's population lives near the coast. England is more heavily populated in the South. So looking for a "rural" area along the southern coast of England, especially one with cliffs, is a tall order. Dover is a major port city where they run ferries to France. Brighton is a popular English holiday spot with a large University. There are rural towns just north of Dover or Brighton. I hope this is helpful!

like someone has already said there is only brighton and dover (Dover are famous for them being white) you could always turn from cliffs into a stone quarry around the area you are wanting if you google image them they are just like cliffs and could put its haunted because the quarry has disturbed souls that rest there .
