Why do we call the place to potty a "bathroom" or " Rest Room"? I mean a Bathroom is were you take a bath and?

a Rest Room is were you rest i would think. So it just crossed my mind while out and having to go to the toilet and read the sign that said " Rest Room" so i was thinking that should be a place to go rest ! lol I wonder to how those who don't speak english and learn it , what they think about us calling it those names? just wondering? Oh when I was growing up we called it " The Toilet" btw. And Tissue we called Toilet Paper ! So i still sometimes say " I gotta go to the Toilet and where is the : Toilet Papper" ! lol Our " Toilet " was a John which was a out House which is Outside ! no flushing it lol!

It is just a euphemism, you know that.

Call it a bathroom or restroom, in other countries they call it a water closet, in Mexico sometimes I would see it written on signs as "servicios" (services), In china they call it a Yushi sometimes (toilet is cesuo), in Australia they have the same names and some more, on airplanes they call them lavatories, in Japan they have a word for bathroom and also toilet, in England they call it a toilet or loo,

So what do foreigners think? Nothing much lol, everyone has words like this. You need to get out more!

"Potty?" Man, I didn't even say that when I was a toddler. I always wondered where that came from. A cutesy way of saying "the pot"?

Anyway, I'd imagine that "rest room" is a quaint euphemism, much like the powder room. It's where you go to "rest" or "powder your nose." Remember that not too long ago, women were for some reason expected to not need to relieve themselves.

As for "bathroom," it probably is because in most American households, the room with the bath often contains a toilet as well. In fact, it's somewhat uncommon for newer homes to have any rooms with a toilet but not a sink/bathtub.

In French homes, there are usually two rooms, la salle de bains (bathroom), which has the bathtub and sink, and la toilette, which is basically a toilet in a closet. Apparently English-speakers decided that calling the room the the toilet "the toilet room" was rude and chose instead to go with its "better half."

    Just guesses, though.

The bath is indeed in the "bathroom". Why is the toilet the most dominant item in that room? Anyway, as you know, the toilet was located elsewhere on a property back several decades ago, so the room was meant for bathing.

Everyone still says toilet paper though. I've never heard anyone call it tissue (which is for blowing your nose).

It is called that many names I do not think it matters. I call it depending on the company "the Loo"

"the lavatory "The Bog" " the toilet" and other things far more to the point

At my job, I have to show many people where the toilet is. I've heard many names for it too - restroom, loo, conveniences, toilet, bathroom, dunny etc!

I call it a toilet or a loo!

Er, obviously you're very young or you would realize it is not really appropriate to say "I'm going to the toilet" in polite company. Only kids can get away with it

Call it "The Crap Room" Lmao

It is technically a "rest room", because you rest your anal sphincter muscle there.
