Any AK-47 Recommendations?

I am searching for a low cost (375-425 $), yet reliable AK-47. I have heard the WASR vs NON WASR argument and the"never buy from Century Arms" claims, etc etc etc... After doing some research, the Romanian/Century WASR 10/63 looks like a decent buy ~ if there is no loose mag wobble, the canting is acceptable, the milling is correct, and the barrel is not blown out (If Century Arms really does offer a lifetime warranty these things may be corrected with time--I am lost). I have also heard many things about the SAR I & II, and the MAK 90. I am not a collector but want to buy a basic AK(M) without spending too much $$$. What are your suggestions and where do I find a good AK dealer (FFL) online?

Any suggestions - good or bad or indifferent are greatly appreciated.

First of all the AK replaced the SKS because it was more rugged and reliable and not the other way around. So I have no idea what the guy above me is talking about. As far as cheap AK clones you will probably end up buying a Century Arms one. They are the most common and cheapest.

    The good news....

Even Century Arms has a hard time screwing up an AK, but remember anything is possible. WASR-10 magwells are a lot of time out of spec because they were 10 round sporter rifles that had the magwell cut out to accept regular AK magazines by God knows who. I was lucky and my magwell was very tight. In fact Romanian mags fit great while Chinese mags would not fit at all. I had to take a file and widen it a little more so my 100 round drum mag would fit. Now all mags work flawlessly and I've fire thousands of rounds without a hick up.

I have found some of the better AK deals are at http://centerfiresystems.com/ and you just have to keep your eyes peeled for a sale.

I personally like the Century International Arms GP1975 AK platform. I think though, that you may be better served by just going to a couple local gun shops and handling a few and checking them out. Personal preference will make or break it, after all.

As to FFL dealers, you can hit up a few sites, such as fflgundealers.net -- they have a map to select states, and then further narrow the search with a ZIP.

Or just Google "FFL dealer [insert ZIP]"

you're better off with an AR-15 or SKS than an AK AR is more accurate and SKS is more dependable
