More letters after my name :-)?
Ignore the question mark.
This question is totally not for the purpose of showing off.
On Saturday I graduated with a Master of Music Studies.
I am now trying to work out pathways to get into research (preferably a PhD program). I think I still need to do some research methods courses to be eligible for the PhD program for most universities in my state. The course I just did involved some research but was mostly coursework-based.
Now, so that Y!A will think this is an actual question and not delete it...
Actually I can't think of one so I'll cheat: what question about classical music would you most like to be asked?
Thanks.
I made, on a 7-point grading system, a 1.06 improvement on my undergraduate GPA. If I'd scored just 2.5% more in one subject and 1% more in another that would've been a 1.81 point improvement.
My undergraduate GPA was brought down because of failing a semester due to medical reasons and not being together enough at the time to apply for compassionate withdrawal from the failed subjects, hence why I couldn't just go straight from there into the M.Phil or PhD.
I'm in Queensland, at the Queensland Conservatorium, which I would prefer to the other universities around here, as the music department is the best in the state.
Interstate is difficult due to financial issues.
Yes, I need research methods courses, there was only a small amount of instruction in research methods in the course that I did. I've been looking at how a thesis is structured to give myself some idea of what I would need to do.
One of the professors who I spoke to suggested applying for the other major universit
-ies around here and just not mentioning that I haven't done them. I'm going to email the universities in question and ask for advice, in the meantime I'm trying to narrow down potential thesis topics.
For now I am ok- thanks for the offer of help.

CONGRATS!!!!! This is some achievement - altho there are folks here (Luddite is not the correct term - anti-intellectual, perhaps) who think that ALL credentials are just *showing off*, etc. None of those folks HAVE any, that's why.
So - what state? You are decided on staying IN your state? Often, things come up with nice benefits for OUT of state people - at both private and THOSE state schools. And you need research methods courses? Did not get enough during your MM? Give us more info on what you seek, and we can respond with more help - unless you are OK already.
Again - GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to be asked, "Would you like your billion dollars as a direct deposit or in cash, while I play this classical music?"

Congratulations Rachel,
I remember when you were accepted and how happy you were.

"Dang! You play really well. How did you learn to play piano like that?"
... well, that's what I'd LIKE them to ask.
