Should my 20 month old be saying words more clearly?

My little boy is 20 months old. He had a huge vocabulary! He understands instructions (when he wants to do them) and has started his terrible 2 temper tantrums already. He also knows most of the animal sounds, car and siren sounds. But I am concerned about his vocabulary because he is not fully pronouncing words. His name is Reece he says "cheesh." Tractor is "tattor." Aunt Amy is "Ah mememe." Ambulance is "Dadadace." And there are words he refuses to say, like Grammy, and Aunt Erin. So my theory is that he is having trouble making the "R" sound. Should I look into this more or let is slide a while? Are there any helpful hints to encouraging him to make the "R" sound? Thank You!

he is fine.. the fact that he has a huge vocabulary is what matters, the distinction will come with time...he's not even 2 years old yet! I had trouble saying my R's as well.. up until about 4 or 5. My name is Rachael so I would always say..."wachael!!" I remember my father working on my r sound with me when i was pretty young, but once I started school it was perfectly fine.

Some sounds are alot harder than others. My 16 month old says near 30 words, but many of them aren't exact but I know what she is saying. She has a hard time saying, socks, shirt, and shoes, she gets the "shh" part and usually the vowel but can't quite get the ending of it. she also says "pup" for "cup"

its all based on maturation - have to make a baby learn at their own pace. also, we all know the saying one they walk, two they talk, so just be patient until around 2 and a half and if it hasnt cleared up by then, maybe go see some kind of language specialist.

LOL no it's natural...some kids have a clearer vocab than others...i think it's cute.

just make sure you correct him politely from time to time.

my little girl is about to turn 3 and sounds her "L" like "W" and "F" like "P"...

for example: Look = Wook and her uncle Freddy = Preddy
