Dying your hair when a female in the military?
My little sister just shipped out for basic training, she is in reception right now so she was able to text me using her cell phone in the evening. She said they made her dye her hair a dark brown. She is a natural blonde and her hair is really light. I thought it was really weird that they made her dye it. I suppose it is because she had highlights and lowlights in it?
I know I couldn't believe she was texting me! haha They will take her cell phone away pretty soon I would think. When she actually starts basic training. She must have had enough coloring in it for it to look unnatural or faddish to whoever examined her--I really didn't think it was that bad. I'm surprised they didn't just bleach it blond as she is a blonde after all...I mean, she is going to have roots in a few weeks. HELLO!

I graduated Air Force basic training in 2009 and some of the girls in my flight who had their hair highlighted had to have it dyed, since it's supposed to be in air force regulations for hair standards. After she's done with basic training and goes on to tech school she can have high lights andlow-lightsts again as long as they look natural. But yeah in boot camp the military training instructors tend to be really strict with dress anappearancece. If she's at Air Force boot it's only eight weeks that she'll hate at first then things start to get better.

I spent years in the Army and colored my hair just about the entire time, but I have never heard of the Army making anyone color their hair.... with one exception. If the haircolor or style can be considered "faddish" or unnatural, they can direct you to correct it. There was a girl of Asian descent in one of my units who went blonde and the 1SG counseled her that it was not within standard. She was given a certain amount of time to fix it or face administrative consequences (Article 15). She changed it.

Highlights and lowlights might have been considered faddish and that's not allowed.

They're right...faddish and all. I'm just stuck on how she still has a cell phone... lol ;)

honestly, i dont think you should do some thing that drastic. get some honey blond highlights or something. because if an individual want platinum blonde hair, you are usually going to have to bleach the particular heck out of it.
