Duncan: O'Brien.

Syme, as he is so indoctrinated that an otherwise logical, intelligent and free thinking man is lending his extreme intelligence to the furthering of the party's control.

the most offensive character is probably the man who works for the ministry of love and tortures people mentally and physically in room 101. He does this to Winston smith and his girlfriend and the most offensiveness of the book is the government who are making smaller and smaller dictionaries and want to make people think less and less for themselves over time and revert back to be unthinking animals who are mentally and physically tortured by the state because they can do it. Three states do this too. It was written about stalin and the show trials and the millions who were killed by him and hitler . I have read it four times. It is about the hopelessness of life of the individual human being in brutal regimes. the state in it do not want people to think at all . they want to create an illusion to mask the dire reality .

It's not a person, it's Room 101.
