  • Why is the alcohol in the drug store labeled 91% when it is apparently 100%?

I use Isopropyl alcohol to clean office machines. I was looking for a way to remove the water from the 91% alcohol in the drug store. (A gallon of 99% isopropyl is $44) I found a chemical site online that explains how to add salt to the alcohol and this would cause the water to separate out of the alcohol water mixture. I tried this with some 70% alcohol I had in the house and it separated. I tried this with the 91% product and nothing separates out of the alcohol. So why do they label the bottle 91% when it is apparently 99 or 100% alcohol?

  • Is a US manufacturer required by any law to continue making parts for a discontinued model?

Is there any US or state law that requires a product manufacturer to continue making parts for a particular model after he has stopped production of that model? If so how long. I do not want an opinion or your say so, if you can answer this I want a direct reference to a law or precedent that requires it. When I worked as an automotive technician I was told this was so and the parts would be produced for 10 years but I am looking for a part that was last used on a truck produced in 2005 and they have already discontinued that part.

  • I saw an old Pan American airlines poster about a flight to Rio?

THe poster states" Fly down to Rio via Pan Am in five days" The plane pictured in the poster is a sea plane that appears to have 5 or 6 engines mounted over the wing. Would this have been a New York to Rio de Janeiro flight? Where would it have stopped for the night along the way?

  • Attention GM technician: Anitlock Brake light on in S-10 pickup truck with no codes stored. WHY?

I have a 1994 S10 with 4 wheel anti lock brakes and the "Z" throttle body fuel injection engine. The antilock brake light stays on (the regular brake light is off). I connected a scan tool to the truck it says no codes are stored. Scanning the sensor inputs shows that the wheel sensors indicate 3 MPH while the vehicle is standing still. All three sensors read the same thing and readings increase when the truck moves but go back to 3 MPH when you stop. I have tried to move the plug wires away from the wiring harness but that did not get rid of the problem. Is there a GM mechanic out there who has run into this problem?

  • Is there a real medical reason a doctor would want you to smoke cigerettes?

In my health insurance policy it states there is an additional charge for smokers, but that this can be waived if your doctor can give a medical reason why it is inadvisable for you to stop smoking. I don't smoke but I am just wondering.

  • Why does a 2002 Jeep Liberty have heating problems?

My daughter has a 2002 Jeep Liberty, about 5 years ago the vehicle ran hot a long way from home and they replaced the radiator. They told her it was too clogged to flush out. Ever winter since then I have had to flush out the heater core in order to get the heater to work. Last year I flushed out the system and refilled it with new antifreeze and distilled water and still had to flush it out again this winter. From what I have read this seems to be a common problem for this vehicle. I have worked on vehicles for years and have never seen a vehicle that had a problem like this. I have had vehicles that had ditch water in the cooling system that worked better than this. Does any one know what is in the cooling system of this vehicle that causes this on going problem?

  • Have you ever heard of a truck called Kelsey Cargo?

My father used to get a farm magazine(in the US) in the 70's that had an ad in it for a pick up truck that had a cargo box that lowered to the ground. I think it was imported from Australia and was called a Kelsey Cargo(spelling ?). I'm I correct about this, has anybody else heard of this?

  • Looking for the title of a Jimmy Stewart movie....?

In the seventies I watched a movie on TV with Jimmy Stewart as the main character. He was an ex prisoner who was released from jail and given a LARGE check ($64,000.00 I think) for his labor in prison. The check could only be cashed at the issuing bank. He spent most of the movie trying to get back to the bank while the prison warden was trying to kill him. The warden and the banker were filling their pockets with the money that was supposed to be given to released prisoners.

  • Should we add a trash tax to alcoholic beverages and cigarettes?

I sometimes pick up trash along my road and most of the garbage seems to be beer and booze containers and cigarette butts/packages. I think we should add a $2.00 tax for alcohol containers and a $1.00 tax for tobacco products. I think that alone would get the US out of debt in about 10 years based on what I see.

  • How often would a buried bucket of water freeze?

I want to build an outdoor fountain, actually a water fountain for my cats. I want to place a 5 gallon bucket in the ground so that the top of the bucket is slightly below grade level with an insulated lid. A water line will feed water into the bucket through a float valve so that water stays at about 5 inches deep in the bucket. A submersible fountain pump will then pump the water to an above ground fountain for the cats to drink. The water will over flow into a collection filter and drain back into the bucket. I want to know if the ground heat and the continuous circulation of the water will keep the water above freezing temperatures. I live in Loris, South Carolina where the frost line is about 2 inches and the winter temperature rarely goes below 30 degrees for more than 8 hours(overnight) at a time.

  • Why are certain wrenches not for sale in Canada?

I was looking through a Fastnel catalog at my cousin's store, in the back was a list of things that could be sold in certain areas. This list was mostly a list of chemicals that could not be sold in certain states, this I understand. It then went into a list of wrenches and other tools that could not be sold in Canada. Why are they not allowed to sell these tools in Canada?
