Will MELBOURNE fc ever recover from its stupidity?

The Melbourne fc chose Dean Bailey an untried coach 4 years ago, instead of Kevin Sheedy, and now they have sacked him. Sheedy an experienced 4 time premiership and 27 year coach, was unbelievably rejected in favor of Bailey. The Melbourne football club administration have now proved their total stupidity and incompetence and should resign immediately.

Couldn't agree more. Seems like there's good management, average management, bad management

and then there's Melbourne FC's atrocious management and scape-goating. You've got to feel for the supporters and fans. Some-what akin to watching Donald Duck behind the wheel of a F1 car & knowing Mickey & Goofy are the pit crew !

DW, hasn't it been a battle of stupid ever since the sack on Norm Smith? Melbourne has never had a serious plan about anything in my 28 years following the game. If the administration would resign, it would be just like if the Richmond and Footscray admin would resign for not seriously wanting to win for over 30 years. What could do better to improve, there isn't anything available, is there? No brilliant footy minds that could turn the eternal messes of these three clubs.

Trust DW here, the man knows more about footy than any of us will ever know.

Sheedy may have been a four time premiership coach but by then, the goose was cooked with Sheeds, as it were. Can't recall who else would have been available at the time but Bailey was the logical choice.

Still, there needs to be a clean out of admin. Past players have spoken of its poorly run, ramshackle nature.

I see 2 really good answers there, Shifty and Cousins.

Sheedy was burnt out on coaching at that time, and was asking a multi year deal which was out of the range of clubs like Melbourne and Richmond. Even the Bombers endured 3 hard years at the end of Sheeds career. That was not the answer.

  • Im gonna go out on a limb here and risk my reputation as this sections unquestioned awesome opinion (lmao)...the Bailey hiring at the time made sense for Melb, not Dean Bailey so much himself, but he type of coach that they went after. Kevin Sheedy, taking nothing away from him because he's a legend and one of God's gifts to footy, but lets be brutally honest here, Sheeds is old..and in any sport, espeically teams sports you must move on, you gotta get on with the times or the times are gonna get on with you (Woosha at WCE's stubborness in using man-to-man defence prime example)..you gotta change, you gotta bring in new blood, so no bringing in old man Sheedy in at the time made sense, what didnt make sense was there was plenty of young and up and coming coaches that were far better than Bailey...

btw im not gonna say any names, but more than a few of you on here at the time were applauding the hiring of Bailey...funny to see that once it blew up in the Dees *nuts* face some of you have flipped the script!!

Their reasons for not hiring Kevin Sheedy as senior coach was. that after such a long time as senior coach at Essendon. + the fact that his former club that he had played for Richmond. were not interested in hiring their former prodigal son. gave them enough reasoning to continue with Dean Bailey. as he was placed into the job as caretaker coach to start with. but the powers that be at the club. kept faith with him. & decided to give him a crack at the senior coaching job full time on a 3 year tenure.

The Melbourne footy club, like Richmond. these once great powers of the VFL/AFL are having financial problems. you have to wonder. is there only so much money that can go around in the state of Victoria. so these clubs can have the kind of working capital required to keep them competitive?

I could go on forever with lots of reasons why these clubs are struggling to reach the summit. but as you have pointed out. bad administration is at the heart of the problem. i have absolutely no doubt about it mate.

    cheers.
