My name is Brian, sports mad 51 year old in Kansas USA. Favorite teams in sports are Kansas City-NFL gridiron, Kansas City-baseball, N.Y. Rangers-ice hockey, Geelong-Australian football, Sterling College and the University of Kansas-USA college athletics. I am not really much of a pro basketball fan since the early 80's, bring me a good college or high school hoop game anyday. I love to travel, been to 14 different MLB ballparks and 12 different minor league baseball parks. Been to Australia six times for 38 senior Australian Football League matches, AFL reserves, under 18's and even one NRL state of origin rugby match. As Geelong captain Tom Harley said at the MCG awards stand on GF day 2007 & 2009, "We are Geelong!" I am very highly opinionated about sports, if you don't like my opinion, so be it.
Anybody know of internet showings of the Grand Final available in Kansas USA.?
The supposed Fox Soccer Plus channel not available on Cox cable in North Central Kansas. I can listen to 3AW via afl.com.au, but I was wondering about any internet shows available in the USA. Big Pond and the feed on afl.com.au not available overseas (to the USA).
2 AnswersAustralian Rules9 years agoHere we go again, footy will not be available to most of the USA on telly. Any ideas for me here in Kansas?
The AFL announced today that Fox Soccer Plus has acquired the rights to the USA coverage for 3 years beginning immediately. Fox Soccer Plus is a subscription channel with additional coverage not on Fox Soccer. Typical fees are $14.99 a month. FSP is available to most DirecTV, DISH, FiOS, and AT&T U-verse customers. It is also available in selected Time Warner and Brighthouse cable markets but not all.
What this means is I can't see any footy in Kansas USA, not available on my cable system. This Yank will be back to radio calls only on afl.com.au, unless you all have a better idea or know of something else. This also includes ESPN3.com, no more footy online in the USA either.
5 AnswersAustralian Rules9 years agoHow do you handle working in an office with women that are drop dead gorgeous and not stare all the time?
I work in the office with some ladies that are just stunning beautiful. How do you not stare at them all the time and not be accused of harassment or some other politically non-correct garbage? I am not politically correct.
9 AnswersGender Studies9 years agoThose of you in Oz, will this benefit me in Kansas, USA to watch Geelong play each week online?
I only get to see Geelong if it is one of the 3 weekend's matches available on line via espn3.com in the USA.
Will this ruling make all 8 games of each round available on line in America? So far, any online from afl.com.au is only available in Oz. The thoughts of you all?
3 AnswersAustralian Rules9 years agoDid I miss it or has Greater Western Sydney not named a captain yet?
I looked on their website on afl.com.au and didn't see a captain yet listed. A list with jumper numbers is on wikipedia, but no captain indicated. As you all are aware, not much footy news (zero) here in the USA, only what I see on line (Age, Herald Sun websites, AFL website or YA footy). Maybe Sheedy hasn't named a captain or I just missed it. Thanks to all you all. We are Geelong. I will not predict a repeat premiership, that is silly, but I want GFC to win every week.
3 AnswersAustralian Rules9 years agoAny of you know how to get a DVD of the 1963 Grand Final? The full game?
Only the last quarter is available from VEG. I have it from Fabulous Footy Flashbacks. I know that full DVD of Grand Final is missing with Aussie Football Video from Visual Entertainment Group, the 1962, 63, 64 and all GF matches before 1961 game. Any help appreciated to me here in Kansas.
"We are Geelong"!!!
4 AnswersAustralian Rules10 years agoA couple of rules questions, doubt they would ever happen, but what if it did?
1. First off it is really windy one day, 60kmph or more, favoring one goal 100 percent.
2. After a behind with the wind, the fullback kicks back in and the wind blows the footy over his head behind him for a rush behind. He does this 2 or 3 more times until he figures out to kick out along the ground.
3. When it is done like this over and over, do the rules call this a deliberate rush behind. After a while it is not by accident.
Also, same ground.
1. ball up in the goal square. After a couple of bounces and throwing the ball up, each time the ruckmen never touch the ball, the umpire calls the bounce back because the wind blows the footy out of play each time. Same thing with the boundary umpire in the forward pocket at this end.
2. What do the rules call for in these kind of weather conditions.
5 AnswersAustralian Rules10 years agoMy time in 100m freestyle is 3:28.00, been a lap swimmer for over 10 years, any hope of getting faster?
I am nearly 50 years old, just no speed in my body or athletic talent of any kind. Any ideas? I have had instruction on bettering my technique with arms, legs, breathing, flip turns.
4 AnswersSwimming & Diving1 decade agoIs it possible to have the disease COPD, but I have never been a smoker?
Lifetime asthma, lifetime chronic bronchitis also.
2 AnswersRespiratory Diseases1 decade agoAny known circumstances of any country footy leagues that have had 2 consecutive drawn games in a GF?
Then they have had to have a 2nd Grand Final replay? Just curious. I would think the chances are slim and none.
3 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoDon't all the out of contract players who have signed with GC still have to go through the draft process?
Let us say that Gary Ablett is already signed. Doesn't he have to go through the draft process still? If so, can't Geelong redraft him or one of the other 15 clubs draft him and he ends up at Collingwood or Essendon or West Coast?
How are he and others that have signed with Gold Coast then exempt from the draft?
4 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoI know it is only after 5 rounds, but here comes my yearly question. What's wrong with Geelong?
Legitimate, thought out answers, please. None of the players are too old, Gaz Jr. thinking about GCFC, heart or want to win, injuries type answers. Geelong is the best team in the comp, 4th year running, losses so far this year have been embarrassing. The Cats should have steamrolled Fremantle, should have beat Carlton. Please think about a serious answer before your fingers strike the keyboard. Thanks for your answers.
12 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoHaiti has this 7.0 earthquake, I have not heard of damage at all in the Dominican Republic. Any idea why not?
Both share the island of Hispaniola. Just wondering.
4 AnswersEarth Sciences & Geology1 decade agoGeelong vs. Collingwood, seems like most of the experts pick Geelong to win. How? Details below.?
Geelong doesn't have enough intestinal or testicular fortitude to beat Collingwood. Yes, I want Geelong to win, but I think Collingwood will win by at least 10 goals, 60 points. Any readers here with agreeing or dissenting opinions?
12 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoHave the handbags returned to Geelong?
I know that the Cats played awful in the first three quarters against St. Kilda and Geelong has been playing very soft. Then, several of the players were out at Brisbane, so that could be an excuse for losing that game.
Losing is a disease and it is contagious. Melbourne have won two in a row, but can Geelong win against the Dees, then the following week against Hawthorn? I will be attending both games, I leave the USA for Melbourne on Tuesday the 14th. I just do not want to see any losses by an excellent team that has been playing "I am bored" type footy, taking it easy, just do enough to get over. That style of half-a$$ed play doesn't win premierships. If anybody reading this is not sure, I am a Geelong member and barrack for the Catters.
8 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoOne of my friends has been blocked from making comments in Facebook. What causes that?
Did some troll report her? Overuse of an option--status changes? She has been blocked on comments now for 9 days. Any ideas on how to get unblocked, cleared, etc.?
5 AnswersFacebook1 decade agoGoing to Australia in July, but first time since I got a cell phone. Will it work so I can catch up with mates?
I have an LG phone from Alltel here in Kansas. The customer service people in my town have no clue if my phone is compatible in Australia. I will be meeting some of my mates at the footy at the MCG, Kardinia Park, Colonial Stadium while in Melbourne and Geelong.
Any advice on this? Thanks.
4 AnswersOther - Australia1 decade agoLooking for a contact e-mail or telephone number to get tickets to the July 23 Footy Show. Any Ideas?
Last time I was in Melbourne, 2003, the contact person was a lady named Joanne Neil. I sent an e-mail to her with no response. I checked the Channel 9 website and no contact info. Any ideas on who to contact at Channel 9 in Richmond. Since we have no Footy Show on the tele or footy at all on tele here in Kansas, USA, this is the only time I get to see the Footy Show. Any help appreciated.
2 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoTrade week seems quite silly. Why can't the AFL try to adopt trade patterns like below in American sport?
This trade week business only lasts a week and not much happens. I am still opposed to free agency, it basically has ruined the competitive sense professional sports in America. Over half the teams in any given league here, baseball, football, basketball or hockey, have absolutely no chance of any kind to win the World Series, Super Bowl, Larry O'Brien Trophy or the Stanley Cup.
Trades should take place at any time, except from round 16 on through the finals.
For instance, say Matty Lloyd gets hurt again for Essendon in round 2 next year and is done for the season. Essendon could then offer Hawthorn five or more players to trade for Buddy Franklin. So, after two rounds with Hawthorn, Franklin would play for Essendon the next week. Or, Essendon could pick up any delisted player to take Lloyd's place. Maybe they could talk Spider Everitt into coming out of retirement to play full forward for the rest of the year.
Or, Fremantle decides they have to have Gary Ablett for any price for the rest of the year, mid-May. Geelong says they have to have their choice of 3 current Freo players and the Freo first round draft pick for the next five consecutive years.
All of these possible trades could happen in American professional sport if the teams agree. Why do trades like this not happen in the AFL, if the two or three teams involved in the deal.
13 AnswersAustralian Rules1 decade agoThe Footy Show vs. Jason Dunstall, being here in the USA and no Footy Show, What did I miss?
Since I cannot see the Footy Show here in Kansas, I missed something. I just saw a video on the Herald Sun footy site, there seems to be a war, James Brayshaw, Garry Lyon and Sam Newman vs. Jason Dunstall.
Then there was a kiss and make up session at Flemington. What is going on with these guys. I suppose that Jason is upset about something said on the Footy Show, again. I still laugh about the time when Sam came on the show in shorts, sunscreen, a Hawaiian shirt after the heat at the Gabba for Jason in 1995, first time I was in Australia, in the audience at the Footy Show--once I understood what the gag was about.
Is this a real controversy or another gag? Sam is usually a real mate with most of the people he makes fun of, less Caroline Wilson.
So what is the fight about?
