Flying into BWI and going to DC... help?

Hi... I am flying into BWI airport in a week for a job interview in DC.

I have been reading about the MARC train and just wanted to know how easy it is going to be.

I haven't been to DC since I was a kid and I hate looking "lost" in cities when I travel alone, in particular for safety reasons, so I just was curious if anyone had any info on the MARC.

I will be flying in on a weekday morning and flying out the following weekday after my interview.

Thanks ahead of time.

Update:

Hi Don, thanks for the info. I'll be headed to Dupont Circle when I arrive in DC.

Update 2:

Hi Don, thanks for the info. I'll be headed to Dupont Circle when I arrive in DC.

It really depends upon where in DC your hotel will be (I assume you're stopping at your hotel before your interview).

The MARC connection works pretty easily, provided you're traveling on a weekday. When you arrive at BWI, get on the shuttle bus to the BWI train station. Get a ticket for the next MARC train to Washington Union Station. Settle back and relax for about 30 minutes at which time you'll be at Washington Union Station.

If your hotel is near a Metro station, follow the signs at Washington Union Station and get on the Metro to your destination.

If your hotel is not near a station, it might be best to take a taxi--they will be lined up in front of Union Station.

As for safety, as long as you're in the main business and tourist section, you'll be fine.

    UPDATE

Dupont Circle? That's very easy to get to via Metro. Once you get off the MARC train, follow the signs to the Metro station (the path is entirely indoors). Purchase a farecard (the web link will tell you the cost, which depends upon the time of day) and wait for a Red line train (the only line that serves Union Station) in the direction of Shady Grove Road. Get off five stations later at Dupont Circle.

I like Don W's answer the best and think he deserves "Best Answer" here.

But let me add one more thing. It's always good to have a backup plan. So, look into the so-called "Super Shuttle" for a ride from BWI into downtown Washington DC. The price seems to be about $22.
