Aren't you just a little embarrassed?

So many people have nothing right now,and so many of us are well-off enough to be spending time on the internet.Shouldn't we be just the slightest bit ashamed of our selfishness in a world where too many people go hungry and homelessness is so pervasive?

Yes, I am ashamed that there are so many that are willing to turn a blind eye to those suffering in the world. To those who have been saying things like 'I have worked for what I get, other people can do the same', that may not actually be the case. There may be situations in which people cannot work to build better lives for themselves, because, perhaps, they have no financial base, are emotionally or physically hindered, or have not had the same opportunities as those more fortunate. I think it is the moral responsibility of the better off to put their excess resources into schemes that could improve so many people's quality of life; that so many of us do not, that we continue to indulge in what surely are the grossest of excesses makes us despicably culpable.

Nope, not embarrassed at all. I am in a bad situation myself, living with family members due to an on the job injury for my husband and lack of work for myself. Luckily they have the internet, which I am now using while applying for jobs online because I don't have the gas to go store to store. We went from having a beautiful 4 bedroom house on acreage to nothing. I could whine on about my problems, but I don't see the point. In any case, we should be glad for what we have and not ashamed. We should try to help others when we can. Selfishness and shame doesn't factor in with enjoying or using the internet that some worked for so that they can have.

I worked for everything I have and at least here in America, everyone else has the opportunity to do the same. If they choose not to then their lot is their fault and has nothing to do with me.

Nope. Our families worked hard for the wealth and life they gave to us. We'll continue to do the same
