Married folks, if one of your kids is in the hospital overnight for multiple nights?

and they are young enough (3) that someone has to be with them 24/7, how did you (or would you) split up the time?

I had this situation when my daughter was 3 and I stayed with her the entire time. It wasn't that my husband wouldn't but I just wanted to be near her.

If it was not possible for me to be there for the entire time it would largely depend on whether there were other children involved and also work schedules (if time off work was not an option for one parent etc) etc.

But ideally one would do day shift while the other was home with the other children and that would be rotated, So the child always had a parent and the other children were still cared for.

All while giving both parents an opportunity to be at home to shower change and rest at some stage.

if it was one night or a few nights I doubt I would leave at all. BUt, if it was an extended stay I would have to do split shifts with my husband as I have four children and the other three would still need to be cared for, and comforted etc etc.

    I've gone through this twice.

But both time, husband was in paternity leave (allowed over here). Since I was breastfeeding the babbies, I was the one who stayed at the hospital and Husband with the kid(s) at home. First time was more serious though. So he would bring the daughter at the daycare for the day. And at night, he would bring me the other kids so I can see them and have dinner with them.

I was (and still am) lucky not to be a single mother. I don't remember being as tired as I was at these times.

When this happened to one of our children because of a horse accident, I stayed during the day and most of the night. In the evenings my husband met me for dinner at or near the hospital and he stayed for 6 hours or so after work so I could get some sleep. Then I would go back and do it again.

It would be me...the whole time.

I have a three year old and as Mama I would HAVE to be there the entire time. I just can't imagine not. I would take the time off work (that's why God invented sick/personal time) and I would be there day and night, save an hour here or there to go home and take a shower. My husband would come and visit after work and hang with us for the evening and I'm sure the grandparents and aunts would show their faces too when they could.

My thoughts are with your little one.

I'm a mom of a 3 yr old, and I would be there myself 24/7, no matter what.

I'm sure you are a great father, but a child of that age really needs to have mom present at all times. If you want to be there too when you can, all the better for your child!

Sometimes only mommy can "kiss it and make it all better", you know? Most toddlers/preschoolers look for mom for comfort and reassurance when they are sick/inured. Having Daddy there too can only make him/her even more at ease!

My daughter was in the hospital for 4 days when she was 3 weeks old. I never left her. I didn't even go down to the cafeteria. My husband stayed home with the others & brought them up to visit. I would shower & change clothes while they were up there.

When it was my little guy, it was just me & him to worry about at that time, so I just took time off work & stayed with him 24/7.

If I were you, I'd take into account the other kids needs, the home needs, and the work needs of both spouses.

it has it particularly is days besides the incontrovertible fact that it particularly is totally probable that i'm the project that does no longer be a reason for me to stay. If i'm no longer happy how can i make my little ones happy. We waited a protracted time in the previous getting married

Usually by 3 kids are old enough to walk it off and don't even need to go to the hospital.
