$12 toll to get into NYC, is the port authority nuts?

Haven't they noticed there is a recession going on?

It's exactly because there is a recession going on.

There are major projects that have to be done that the states of New York and New Jersey cannot afford (like the Pulaski Skyway and the Tappan Zee Bridge, both of which are in bad shape), so the governors want to use PA money to pay for them even if they aren't PA bridges.

The Port Authority is run by commissioners appointed by the two govs, 6 from each state. They are doing what the governors want them to do. You are seeing this announced publicly because the governors have already OK'd it. Of course, they will state that they are raising the tolls in a higher amount, the governors will pretend to be shocked and appalled and will issue statements saying they will not approve the tolls increase as originally put forth and will "make" the PA lower the increase, complete with press statements, of course. And then the toll increase will be implemented in the amout that they planned it for in the first place, and the governors will syphon off the pre-determined amounts for their state projects.

    Hey, you elected these people.
