Does the name on an envelope matter as long as the address is right?

For example, could you put...

"Mr. One-eyed One-horned Flying Purple People Eater" , followed by the correct address and everything? Does the post office pay attention to the name on the envelope and make sure it matches the address? Kind of a strange question haha but truthful answers are appreciated!

Update:

Maybe i should clarify. If i were to do it as an inside joke with a friend and i know her address is correct but i wanted to put a nickname instead of her real name.

OCCUPANT or anything else on the name line, as long as the address is correct.

Of course, if the address is NOT correct, a valid name would help the post office get the letter to the right person.

of course it matters. People move and their addresses change. And a lot of the time people get letters in their mailboxes with the right address but wrong name and its usually because that wrong name used to live at that address for a certain time period...when that happens the person currently lving there should send it back to the post office and they sort it out.

Yes the name does matter. The post office won't deliver it. Example: I just moved to another city and I did do the change of address but it takes a while for the post office to process it so some of the letters that my family sent me was sent back. Only because my name was not on the written on the mailbox.
