Do nursing homes kill people?

That is why lots of people DON'T want to go there..they do not take care of the patients like they should dues lack of workers..my daughter used to be a CNA,CMA at a nursing home and could not take it anymore because of lack of services..there are many people who sued the nursing homes too because of it..they want the money but they don't want to take care of them..Now there are some out there that does do a good job but are VERY expensive..So sorry about your dad though..=)

Some nursing homes are good and some are not. Usually if family members visit often and monitor what's going on, the resident may have better and more timely care. In some facilities, that isn't as necessary.

My mother was in an Alzheimer's residence for 8 years, and they were wonderful. She was happy the whole time she was there. And yes, at this residence, they used diapers and stool softener, but they checked the diapers approximately every two hours, and kept the residents and their rooms very clean. So I guess it depends on the facility and the care-givers at the facility, and also on occasional intervention by family members.

It sounds like yoru Dad had a lot of health issues. He isn't suffering any more. He knows that you love him.

My grandmother was admitted into a nursing home not long before she died. They didn't take good care of her at all. Something about patients needing to be wiped and cleansed each day or they can develop harmful skin conditions which is exactly what happened to my grandmother. I have read other stories of the elderly being treated horribly in nursing homes.

It depends on the people working at the nursing home, some people are evil and some people are good! But, yes Ive seen dirty nurses who kill innocent people because they don't want to take care of them.

I also see people trying very hard to keep people alive but it's their time of passing. I'm sure.. there's self absorbed people working at nursing homes, that is why I choose to take care of my parents and not stick them in a nursing home.

now, for you! Why wasn't his depression being treated, why didn't you help him out? Now with his diabetes, why didn't you put him on a diet and make him eat healthy to prevent diabetes?

Yeah, nursing home kills people and the sad thing is you have no idea what they're doing to your father in the nursing home.

All i can say is pray for him, repent for not being there and visit his grave and let him know you feel bad for not helping him, bring flowers and show your respect to him.

the nursing homes i've worked in or visited have been very good,and I have not heard any serious complaints from residents or their families.(although i realise some are atrocious, and they do get reported) people do not expect to get much better at that stage ,it's not the nursing homes that kills them,it's simply the end of their life cycle.

You did what you could at the time ,no need to feel guilty, in retrospect many of us feel the same way.You will feel better when your griefing time is over.

Nursing homes are in the business of keeping people alive as long as possible. That is how they earn their money. If a person dies they just lost a paying customer.

No, although their have been some murders by nursing staff, their excuse they were putting them our of their misery. The ones who have been caught have been convicted of murder.

Being in a nursing home kills people, it is slow and sad. They lose all desire for living as most who have any grip on reality know they have been discarded.

I am so sorry for your loss. Nursing homes, to me, is just another name for hospice homes. People are put there to await death while supposedly being provided comfort. Also my opinion is that people residing therein should be medicated for depression because I believe that depression is partly to blame for their early death.

Well cant speak for canada, but they can certainly kill the spirit to be surrounded by more illness and frequent deaths. depends on family relationships and their inneraction and the persons ability to see a positive side. but there has to be a positive side....

I had two bad experiences with them one with my husband , who lost his eyesight due to illness and he was left dehydrated, took him out {Lawsuit pending] and another friend was given two much of oe drug i 12 hrs and passed and that is another story. Back home inanother state there homes are great and given best of care, but not here ....
