Does anyone remember what it was like before one half of the country hated the other half?

I miss the days when Americans had each others' backs. It seems gone forever.

Update:

Even if we didn't have our political difference, some of you really don't have any redeeming qualities at all, do you. For the few thoughtful answers, Thank you.

I really can't, no. I think like many good people, you're imagining a "good old days" that never really existed.

You mean, do you want to return to the the Good Old Days, when the Puritans were burning suspected witches, and the "Know Nothing" movement was mobilizing against the Irish?

Do you want to return to the Good Old Days, when white immigrants to the West were killing Native Americans and mobilizing mobs to attack Chinese & Japanese immigrants?

Do you want to return to the glory days of the Civil War, when Yanks and Rebels slaughtered each other on a grand scale, and Sherman ended up destroying half of Georgia to end the war, and brother sometimes fought against brother on the front lines?

Or maybe you're talking about the beautiful national harmony that prevailed under the Jim Crow era in the South, when millions of African-Americans were denied the right to vote, forced to attend substandard schools & regularly terrorized by Ku Klux Klan violence?

The fact is -- well, it hasn't always been true that "half" of America hated the other half.

But Americans in large numbers have been hating & despising other Americans in large numbers for hundreds of years now.

Actually, I've heard that a kind of national unity almost prevailed in the 1930s, and even more so during World War II during the struggle against Imperial Japan & Hitler.

But America has always been a nation with deep racial, ethnic & religious hatreds.

Until about 1990, America also was a country in which the heterosexual 85% of the population deeply hated & feared the gay 15% -- without understanding it.

Wake up and smell the hatred & fear, friend. They're "American as apple pie." Not that the US is unique in this way: many other nations have bitter national divisions that are just as deep as ours.

Yes, I do remember. I switched from Democrat to republican during the Carter years. That is when I saw the true face of the Democratic Party and their liberal (morale-less values).

They had no intention of giving the American people a better life. Their intent is strictly to kow-tow to special interest groups and get votes.

Those days were gone decades ago. The hippes now calling themselves progressives used to spit on our troops coming home from vietnam. We started hating them back then.
