Caffeine doesn't make me hyper? At all?

I needed to be awake to do homework, so I drank a straight espresso. It's been a while, and if anything I just feel a bit more tired (might also just be cause it's late). I've only had coffee a few times in my entire life. I never drink energy drinks either. Sugar has never made me hyper for that matter either, but I know for a fact that it just makes me tired right after having it. I don't have any conditions or anything. Coffee works for everyone else in my family. Why don't I get a caffeine high? Is there some reason I wouldn't be able to get one?

Caffeine works through several mechanisms of action including promoting the release of stored fat to be used as energy, more release of calcium from the sarcoplasmic reticulum (thereby leading to greater muscle contraction including greater force production by each motor unit), antagonism of the adenosine receptors mainly in the central nervous system, inhibition of phosphodiesterases leading to an increase level of cyclic AMP in muscle tissue (creating a more favorable intracellular environment in active muscle), and sparing glycogen (carbohydrate stores in muscle cells and the liver) because of an increased rate of fat oxidation (which could explain why caffeine delays time to exhaustion during aerobic exercise). Caffeine has some diuretic properties that can aid in decreasing water retention in the body although it does not seem to act as a diuretic during exercise. Anyway, it is important to consume plenty of water when taking in caffeine. Another thing to look out for is caffeine’s effects on blood sugar. Although not clear from the research, it may decrease insulin sensitivity so diabetics need to be careful. Regularly consuming high doses may also adversely affect blood pressure. Moderation is the key. A regular cup of coffee has about 100 mg of caffeine per serving but some research shows that coffee is not as effective in maximizing the benefits of caffeine as is pure caffeine. Some people using higher doses of caffeine for ergogenic benefit sometimes report nervousness, jitteriness, and stomach discomfort.

There seems to be an upper dosage threshold in terms of using caffeine as an ergogenic aid—more does not seem to be better in this case. In fact, some research indicates that taking a low to moderate amount of caffeine is equally if not more effective than taking a much higher dose of caffeine. Green tea is a great alternative to regular coffee as it has polyphenols and a special compound called EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) which can not only boost immune function but also enhance metabolic rate directly.

Actually, I'm the same way. This is different for everyone. I get tired after I drink caffeine! I usually drink it a little while before I fall asleep. Sometimes if it makes me tired but I dont fall asleep, I can stay up a little later. But I do not get a caffeine high either. Same with sugar.

Happens to me too. If I'm really tired caffeine doesn't work. I usually take 5 hour energy drinks only when I have a long day ahead of me. (I exercise a lot plus I have lots of homework) It usually takes 30 min to an hour to really kick in. It doesn't have a crash. It doesn't make u hyper it just wakes up your brain by putting lots of vitamins in your body to help keep u awake. It has a tiny bit of caffeine and its 0 calories. Which is good. It doesn't have crash although my brother crashed but that's probs cuz he was sooo exhausted. I remember after I had like a 3 hour performance I was wide awake and I kept talking and talking and talking cuz I had taken the energy drink. It was only when I finally told my body that it was time to sleep when I started to relax.

It depends on how sensitive you are to caffeine, so it varies from person to person. Caffeine doesn't make me hyper usually, but if i drink it right before bed it will keep me up for like an hour. But not all night like some people. My mom can drink caffeine right before she goes to bed and it wont bother her at all. It just depends on the person

Everyone metabolizes caffeine differently. Sometimes if you are really tired coffee won't do anything. Are you getting enough sleep?

I have the same thing, It's perfectly normal. About sugar, sugar highs don't exist. You think it'll make you hyper, so you act hyper, subconsciously.

There are people who are resistant to caffeine.
