Fellow Christians: When someone refers to the Nation of Israel...?

What do you think that means? I know of several people who believes it to be the actual land itself.

Genesis 32

28 Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel,[f] because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”

29 Jacob said, “Please tell me your name.”

But he replied, “Why do you ask my name?” Then he blessed him there.

30 So Jacob called the place Peniel,[g] saying, “It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.”

Update:

Chris: I get so frustrated when people say Jesus is God. In a way we are all a part of God, but we are not God. Neither is Jesus, though he is the son and the gateway.

Exodus 20:3

“You shall have no other gods before me.

Mark 13:32

[ The Day and Hour Unknown ] “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

Update 2:

Heart of the Matter: Yes. I suppose I should have added "in terms of the Bible and God's promise".

Update 3:

Lus Verum: This is the same part. Mine says the same thing. Those are the verses that came before what I have posted.

Update 4:

Buster: I understand why you think this. It is still my interpretation that Jesus is a part of God but not the whole thing.

It would depend on the context in which the word "Israel" is used I think.

Because Israel IS a country....AND also Israel does indeed refer to Jacob (aka Israel's) descendants.

Shenzara, the Pharisees did not believe that Jesus was God either. But the scriptures say otherwise. believe you not the Word of God?

Joh 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (2) The same was in the beginning with God. (3) All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (14) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Joh 10:30-33 I and my Father are one. (31) Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. (32) Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? (33) The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting FATHER, The Prince of Peace.

Isa 64:8 But now, O LORD, thou art our FATHER; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

1Co 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

1Jn 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

Isa 43:11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.

Isa 45:17 But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.

Isa 45:4-7 For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me. (5) I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: (6) That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else. (7) I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

Isa 45:21 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a SAVIOUR; there is none beside me.

when someone refers to nation of Israel they are referring to God's chosen people and not trying to upset you but scripture itself refers to Jesus as God John 10:30 "I and the Father are one " then of course John 1:1 " In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God and the word was God." then 1:14 makes this clear that the word was and is Jesus "and the word was made flesh and dwelt among us..."

Waaauw , your bible is altogether different than mine, I am an israeli, God bless Jacob with the name Israel because Jacob was hanging on Him , he did not want to let him go, he was asked to and he replied not before You bless me, and God blessed him with the name Israel , which means " straight to God " in that context ( it can be translated differently, but he was hanging in there, didn't he ? )

Shalom, be at peace and well at it
