New graphics card, no display?

I just bought an Nvidia Geforce 240 GTS and plugged it into the computer I own. Problem is whenever the graphics card is plugged in, my monitor doesn't display anything. Is there a video guide, or at least a good written one available anywhere that can help me fix this? Thanks in advance for any help.

Even without drivers you will get a display

make sure you placed in firmly.

make sure the monitor is hooked up to the card and not the onboard video (lol)

check your bios settings and make sure it is set to give out pci-e first then onboard video otherwise your computer will ignore you have a card installed.

if all that doesn't work, the card may be defective. maybe you can try it in a different machine and see if works there.

make sure the card is plugged fully into the slot on the motherboard ( give it good push ), also make sure the power connections are in tight. If that fails try different slots. It should display something even with out drivers.

I'd say install the drivers before the card is plugged in. It should be on a CD with your card, or online.

perhaps you need to install the driver for it first.
