for how many years would the rioters have to riot to match the $TRILLIONS of damage done by the banking elite?

As many have pointed out, it would take many, many years. However, rioting is very public and overt, and the violence done affects the public directly (your house burning, your shop looted, your car trashed, YOU possibly injured) and carried out by people you can see right in front of you and behaving very violently and personally.
On the other hand, the damage these legalised muggers inflict on us is usually slow-burning although sometimes it can be catastrophic as when a saver loses his life savings or home. But the culprits are often some faceless punter sitting in front of their screens or hiding in board rooms and expensive cars. With the help of politicians, the guilt of these crooks ais diffused and cloaked by specious arguments about cycles, global markets, poor regulations, unbreakable contracts, etc., so that these people get away with their loot. Even their honorific titles remain intact. SIR Fred the Shred is still enjoying the kudos of his title despite what he has done to everyone of us, and his famous affair. LORD Black is still a peer despite mugging his shareholders.

Exactly.
Get a grip people, stop letting your sheepish brains be manipulated and watch this link below to put things in perspective.
It’s a sad day when people get killed but why shouldn’t the poor do what the rich do everyday without any media condemnation or judicial prosecution.

To answer you question. Let’s call banker looting at a conservative £4 trillion. Say £0.5 billion looting over four days which would mean that it would take the good looting citizens of Britain about 8,000 days or 21.9 solid years of rioting and looting to catch up with the bankers. There’s irony for you, almost exactly the average age of the UK looter.
That’s a heck of a lot of flatscreens and i-Phones.

5 deaths by the rioters
how many of our soldiers came home from Afghanistan and iraq without their lives , how many iraq and afghanistan people have lost their lives in this war of ours , the british government are not serving any time for their deaths
I am just comparing all rioters murders to our governments murders
if only the people who had marched against the war had caused this amount of trouble and got the politicians home from their holidays

Society would have ceased to exist long before we got our money back, rioting hurts the poor not the bankers,if you don't like what the bankers did vote for the socialist workers party or the communist party i am sure they will turn Britain into a paradise.

Great Question! They'd have to riot for whole lifetimes without stopping to ever match the ugly mess that the greedy rich have made of this world just since that brain-dead Reagan lied his way into the White House.

Are you daring to suggest that we live in an unjust world,
that greed and corruption permeate every facet of society???
Well, congratulations, you're graduating from being an Ostrich to being a person of wisdom...

The bankers were not criminals. The economy and standard of living (including access to loans and mortgages) was propped up on the strength of the finance markets for many years - our other economic sectors have been weak for ages (what do we manufacture?). You and everyone else in the UK were more than happy to enjoy the good times.
On the other hand the rioters, who have (most probably) lived off the bankers (legitimate, learned and legal occupations) are criminals. It's too easy to whine about the elite and bankers who are at the moment the only thing that are keeping this country from sinking into oblivion.
Edit: I need to stop reading the New Statesman, i'm becoming too left wing.
