typewriter buying advice?

Hello I am looking for typewriter advice. Please don't tell me to buy a computer as I obviously have one already.

I just want advice on a model or features I should look for. Smith-Corona? Remington? How do the older ones stand up to a lot of work? I prefer the older ones because they seem a lot less clunky than newer ones. I will use this 90% at home, but sometimes travel and would take it along.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I had a Smith Corona for years, I practically wore it out. In the end I had to get rid of it as I could no longer get the ribbons for it. This will have to be something to consider when you buy on - can you get the ribbons, especially if you go for an older model.

Make sure its easy to carry too, they can weigh a ton!

Either, just try it out, Car boot sales have them (do you call them Garage sales where people take their unwanted stuff along to sell cheap) some are a bit heavy on the keys to press down, but just go with what you like the feel of, they are usually dirt cheap $5, $10

Make sure it is in a carry case and that that is still sound.

You may have to buy endorsing ink to re-ink the ribbon, as they dry out with time.

I had a Smith-Corona couldn't tell you the make or model. I just know you would type an entire page in memory, proof read then it would type it up. I am pretty sure it had spell check, and grammar check as well.
