Why are people upset that Obama's bus was made in Canada when the Candians buy American vehicles?

I'm trying to figure out why people are upset that Obama's bus was made in Canada, when the Canadians buy a lot of GM and Ford vehicles. If they are buying our vehicles from Detroit and helping keep American auto workers employed, then surely we can buy a bus from them.

Please note that I do understand why people are angry about the 1M+ pricetag though.

Thank-You; that's a good point considering Mulroney and Reagan signed a free trade deal years ago. From the a Canadians standpoint here I'm grateful that at least there are some Americans who understand what "free trade" is.

It's a two way street and you've made valid points.

This commercial says it all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mz6V-aIcg0

(Ford is the top selling brand of truck in Canada for the last 45 straight years.)

And it's just one example of how popular US vehicles are in Canada.

So why haters have their panties in a bunch over a couple of buses is a mystery.

Especially since it's the Secret Service buying them, not Obama with a White House Visa card.

There are people in this country who will criticize ANYTHING related to President Obama.

    We call them racists.

As for the expense of the bus, there are facts being omitted:

    1. There are TWO buses like this.

    2. One is for President Obama.

    3. One is for the Republican Presidential candidate (whomever that may be).

    4. Renting these buses and equipping them for security and communications costs way more than buying them outright.

    5. Such high security is necessary to protect our Presidential candidates because there are far too many loose nuts out there shooting off their mouths while only having part of the facts.

Canada also builds some American cars and trucks, and has been doing so for many years.

As far as the cost, I would think that it is because of the special bullet roof structure, glass, tires , engine compartment and roof structure.

Now add in the special equipment to cook, on the road, chitterlings, and collard greens, plus numerous types of road kill, there is the million bucks.

Apparently, people don't know that Bush's re-election campaign bus was made by the same manufacturer.

The problem is there are a lot of Americans who build these buses that are unemployed now like the people at this bus manufacturer

Blue Bird to close LaFayette factory

    By WRCB Staff

LA FAYETTE, WALKER COUNTY, GA (WRCB) – Bus manufacturer Blue Bird has announced that it plans to shut down its Walker County factory, leaving 350 unemployed.

Citing the economic climate, Blue Bird said it will be transferring the production of Type-C buses from its La Fayette location to its headquarters in Fort Valley Georgia.

"This was a difficult decision, and one not arrived at without significant deliberation," says Blue Bird CEO Greg Bennett in a release to Eyewitness News. "However, in the face of the challenging U.S. economic climate, the school bus industry has declined in recent years and we recognize that we must adjust our production capacity to meet demand in order to remain competitive."

Blue Bird's La Fayette operation currently employs 350 people. The company said it would provide severance and assistance with unemployment.

The La Fayette plant is scheduled to close at the end of August.
