Spiritually speaking, college is better. It makes you a more well-rounded person, more aware of the entire world around you. Trade School is more concerned with training you for a specific vocation, so it's more one-dimensional.

Of course, college is more expensive, and it could train you for a job that doesn't exist. Trade schools are more focused on getting their graduates jobs after graduation. Although, college graduates do generally earn more than trade school graduates.

Spiritually speaking, trade school is probably better than university...roughly similar to community college...in general, a university education subdues spirituality for the sake of empiricism.

But practically speaking, which is better depends on your needs, goals, interests, aptitudes and much much more. Do you want to spend your working life as a mechanic or electrician...if so, then you need trade school...do you want to be an accountant...if so, then you need a 4-year degree (at least).

If you don't have a clue what you want to do, then some work experience might be a better choice than education...explore the career fields you think you might like...and, in the process, figure out what you don't want before you spend money educating yourself for a career you hate. I had a friend who spent six years in university to earn a pharmacy doctorate...and after working as a pharmacist for just six months, he realized he hated it...ended up working as a bartender...could have saved himself $100 if he'd chosen bartending school instead of university!

We don't talk much about class in the USA. Mostly race instead. Managers and professional classes go to four year colleges. Blue Collar, office workers, first level supervisors take some college, go to trade school, or learn on the job.

This is not just pay. Many worker class jobs pay well. Underwater welding; Crane operator, and others put you in a high earning bracket.

Read Bhagavat Gita. Arjuna asked the same question. Why the war? What is the use of worldly pleasures and kingdom? etc etc. You are asking the same question so read Gita.( Not Sankaracharya's commentary, which is a distorted one) edit. I am in low spirits when I read your detail. You even does not know what Bhagavat Gita contains. It is not a book of war. It only says nature compels every one to do karmas from breathing to earn wealth and fame. Gita says one must earn wealth and fame. Technical knowledge? What about upa vedas like Ayur veda (Which contains knowledge about plastic surgery in it.)Stapathya veda (Architecture) Even vedas are materialistic. Aryans pray for wealth for cows and for destroying animies and sapathni(Second wife.) Esavasya upanishad says that Avidya( meterial knowledge)and Vidya(Spiritual knowledge) both are necessary to earn Amritatuam. Aviday means all veda which contain material knowledge. Now I remember Gandhi. He said English education is not necessary. But when chosing Indian Prime Minister he said that Vallabha Bhai Patel has no english education so must not be Indian Prime Minister. Many are hypocrite like Gandhi. If you are not, don't send your children to school. edit Many hindus are preaching paghanda (sinful) philosophy i.e bouddha philosophy. Dharma artha kama are the way to moksha.Hindus Rishis were purna Kama Not nishkama. So earning all the kama is the way to libaration Why krishna wear a crown instead of shaving head? Why he is wearing yellow cloths and ornaments instead of Saffron? Why he sleep in a cot with pillow instead of arm as pillow? Why krishna rule a kingdom instead of beggary?

Better for whom or what? is the operative question that follows. But it is this. Both need to be implemented in the Schools, else we have at best a fallacy, which occurrence as has proved out gets nothing done.

Given the dreaded state in which the USA finds itself in respect of out-sourced jobs, and citizens who have too little reason-to-be-anymore that accords for them worthiness; and given there exists no solid projects yet conceived for which American people can be trained well as trades persons, crafts persons, and artisans simultaneous with still others matriculating in the college, the better direction to take at least for now lies with commencing projects centered on creating trade schools such that the likes of academic college and universities have only to sit back capitally in their office armchairs - as they are wont to do -- and wax philosophically about better and best ways to administer trades and their professions.

Point is, we need no intellectuals to get the USA back on its feet but instead people with applied and masterful skill, whose knowledge hails from dimension and experience as well as book knowledge; people who can dream, who can set-to and draw-up and in turn manifest things into reality by manufacture.

Given that other nations have well learned to train and educate their people at home first than to go abroad expecting someone else to do carry out their projects, manufacturing, and supply-chain operations for them, we in the USA should only wonder why the ideal should not have been at first thought a no-brainer to the planners and captains of industry, whose sight have not seen that what has proved quite successful elsewhere should be thought only inevitable here, but which incapability for American leaders to see has shown pronounce failure.

Since College does a lot of crazy brainwashing, I would say that Trade School is spiritually better.

That depends on what you want to do. If you choose college, don't go to one of those for profit schools like Westwood or Kaplan. Go to a real school, the kind you need to take an SAT for.

I would bet that there is no difference at all between them. It all depends on you, and what your preferences and abilities are.

Do what you want to! Pick something that interests you and check it out. Talk to people in that field to find out more info.

Good luck, I know this can be a very confusing time in your life.
