What two genders of hamsters do best together?

First of all, it matters what species you are getting. Syrians can't be housed together. (Syrians are sold under cutsy names like Panda Bear, Teddy Bear, Golden, et cetera). They can only be housed while young and then they MUST be moved to their own abodes. Many pet stores often keep them together too long. Some dwarf species can reside together, you MUST review which species before determining if the hamster you get can have a cage mate. And then you will get same sex because you do not want to be breeding them.

It just depends. I own two winter white male hamsters. They aren't brothers, but were raised together. They do perfectly fine, and love each other to death!:) Whoever said they will fight, doesn't know that. Two males can do perfectly fine together if they are in a big enough enclosure to accommodate the two, there are no females in the cage with them, and you have two of everything, (water bottles, food bowls, wheels, etc.) But this is only a maybe. My hamsters share. It just depends on the hamster, and their attitude/personality. Hope I helped!

Never get two of the same gender. Especially two guy hamsters. They will fight to the death. Female and female aren't THAT bad, but when I had two females, they didn't like each other that much -___- If you should get two hamsters, you should get a male and a female. But if they mate, make sure to separate them. Also, remove the babies from the cage. The mother will eat them if she feels that they aren't safe. Other than that, they are GREAT pets! (:

Two females are probably the best option. As two males can cause territorial fightin in most cases. And a female and a male together can be overwhelming because of the babies that will result in them being together.

Depends on the breed. Most hamsters should live alone- they are not social wih other hamsters. If you get one of the social breeds, then 3 females are best.

Female + Female = good

Male+Male= horrible fight

Male+ Female= babies galore

Either way, if you get two females they're cause they would want to determine alpha female domanice
